THAILAND -- The National Council for Peace and Order has turned down a request of the Democrat party to hold a meeting to discuss its internal problem and to deal with Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra’s alleged insubordination problem.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, also head of the NCPO, said Wednesday that it was the junta’s policy to ban all political gatherings and meetings without any exception.

As for alleged irregularities in the City Hall especially the 39-million baht light exhibition, he said that agencies concerned would look into the controversy.

Democrat secretary-general Chuti Krairiksh explained that the party needed to raise fund to support party’s activities and, at the same time, needed to sort out alleged mismanagement in the City Hall which, if left unchecked, will hurt the party’s image and its following in Bangkok.
