Asking this on behalf of a friend,

If he obtains a Multiple Entry 1 year visa based on Retirement issued at Immigration (Hua Hin) and then exits Thailand via a Airport and returns just before the admitted until date on his stamp does he then receive a additional 12 month stamp or 90 days when he gets stamped at Airport Immigration?

Thanks

He will not get a multiple entry visa at immigration.

He would apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement.

Then he could apply for a multiple re-entry permit that would be valid until the date the extension ends. Every time he enters the country he would be stamped into the country to the date his extension ends.

He would have to apply for a new extension prior to the end of the existing extension.

It's not possible to get a multiple entry 1 year visa from Hua Hin.

  • If he has a 1 year extension of stay issued by Hua Hin immigration he needs to buy a re-entry permit before leaving. On re-entry he will be granted a stay up to the expiry date of his extension.
  • If he has a multiple entry non 'O-A' visa issued at a embassy outside Thailand and enters just before the 'enter before' date printed on the visa he will receive a new 1 year stay.
  • If he has a multiple entry non 'O' visa he will be granted a 90 day stay on re-entry.

Thanks to you both, I have read reports of people getting a 1 year stay if the visa was issued at a Embassy outside of Thailand but I was not sure if this also applied to applications made inside Thailand

Could he apply for a Non O-A at say for example Vientianne or would it have to be his own country?

Thanks again

O/A visas are only issued in ones country of residence.

All Thai embassies are outside Thailand. Only embassies and consulates issue visas.

Immigrations offices are located inside Thailand. They do not issue or extend visas. They do issue extensions of stay for various reasons.

To apply for an extension of stay based on retirement in most cases your friend would need to in the country on a non-imm O visa entry or a non-imm O-A visa entry near to expiration or else be renewing his current extension of stay based on retirement.

Someone who got a non-imm O-A visa issued in his home country or country of legal residence would have a visa valid for one year from the date it was issued during which time he could stay in Thailand and travel in & out as often as he liked. If he made an exit & return just before the visa expired, he would get an additional 1 year permission to stay, but during his second year's stay, since the visa would have expired, he would need a re-entry permit to travel out of Thailand & return.

If you read my post that you quoted I did not say in that post Immigration issue visas within Thailand but thanks for your reply

I agree with your comment generally, although they are not all stupid questions by any means.

Perhaps we should refer to him in future as "Saint Joe Of Ubon, Patron Saint Of Visa Queries"?

(Sorry UJ, just innocent humour there, no offence intended.)

You didn't say Joe does an amazing job (which he does), you implied that the OP was a "stupid question".

If someone takes the time to ask a question it doesn't make it stupid just because you know the answer.
