Hi

I am heading to Lao, Vientiane to get a 2 months tourist visa.

I never done this before: can someone please tell me if the visa can be obtained the same day or it takes a few days? And how much in USD it cost?

I really appreciate

  • You need to apply before 11 am and pick up the passport after 2 pm the following day.

If you apply on a Friday you cannot collect the passport/visa until the Monday.

$35 for the Laos VOA. For the Thai visa make sure you have the full street address of where you're staying in Thailand or it'll get rejected. And don't listen to the touts out front trying to sell you their services.

Thank you.

The expiration date of my visa is Jan 16 (saturday).

I want to go to Lao on Sunday (so I will need to stay there only Sunday night and Monday night).

Do I face any trouble if i leave one day after the expiration of my stay?

No "trouble" but the likelihood of a 500Bht overstay fine.

whistling.gif Just remember they are not open on weekends.....no business done on Saturday or Sunday.

So as another post said....if you apply on Friday morning, you won't get your passport back until Monday afternoon.

Thank you.

Sorry if i ask:

if i leave thailand exactly the 16 of Jan which is the exact date of expiration of my visa, there should be no 500 baht fine, correct?

If you leave on the date shown as the admitted until date on the stamp in your passport you will not be on an overstay. I assume the 16th is that day not the date your visa expires.

Hi! I have been to Vientiane to get SETV last week so I can tell you exactly what you can expect.

First of all, you should not go to Thai Embassy, that is listed on Google Maps. The building where they issue visas is around 10 min drive from the embassy (Find Vietnam Embassy on Google Maps, it is near by)

After you get there fill application form that you're gonna find inside building. There will be many locals asking you if you need visa form before you enter to the building. For sure it is a scam, I don't know how they try to rip off but just skip them and go straight to the building. With application, passport and two photos go out to wait in the queue in the front of the building.

After you approach to very rude and unpleasant workers to submit your application, they will give you a queue number attached to printed notice (look attached photo). I did not expect that I need to be exactly next day to collect my passport. If you plan to see something around take it under consideration making any plans. I did not check what would happen when I won't show up next day but probably they would make problems or ask extra fee.

Important info about passport collection: the number they give you when you submit application is your queue number for collecting passport. So if you got one of first numbers you're gonna collect your passport right after they open at 13:30. If you have number like 2XX or 3XX your turn will be after all numbers before you collect passport. Practically it means if you have number for example 15, and you show up around 2 pm, you need to wait until everyone else collect passports. You will pay 1000 THB at the moment when you collect your passport. Plan in advance then and good luck!
