Bus to Cambodia

Recommended Posts

These days, there are even a few buses a day that go all the way to the border at Rong Kluea from Ekamai. From Bang Na intersection, there are mini buses about once an hour Best of all, from Central Bang Na, there are comfortable casino buses that leave regularly from around 5:30 am until 10:00 am.

That is interesting. Did you personally take such a Bus? How much is the fare? How to get in contact with the operator? Do they drop you at the Aranyaprathet border or do they send you all the way to the Casinos, such avoiding nasty border-harassment by corrupt officers? I live very close to Central Bangna so this would make for a convenient itinerary on my next trip to Cambo

I have used the casino buses on several occasions. There are multiple operators, most of which can be contacted by phone but I have never bothered. If you are at Central Bangna early to mid morning, just look for coaches or ask around. The one-way price is 200 baht (a little less than the 230 baht charged by the minibuses and much safer and more comfortable). In theory, you can also get a 300 baht return fare, but this means taking the same coach back and usually a long wait. The coach drops you within about a 200 metre walk to Thai immigration. Avoiding the border harassment is mainly a matter of knowing where the official Lao visa office is located and politely, with a smile, declining to pay extra fees. Make sure you have a photo and US currency.

There is a train that goes near the border and you just catch a tuk tuk to the border. Only costs about 100 baht for the train, Thai's can ride free. Found it quite comfortable.

I only took the train once. It is third class only and tends to be pretty dusty if it has not been raining (you must keep the windows open or suffer heat stroke). The fare, as I recall, is only 48 baht, and you can get a 10 baht songtaew to the border. I usually like taking the train in Thailand, but this one is slow. My description of it would be tolerable rather than comfortable. I would only recommend it to people for whom 150 baht is an important sum of money.

That is by far the most miserable, uncomfortable and particularly slowest way to get to Cambo

I am sure you r talking about the CAMBODIAN Visa office and not the LAO visa office ?

What I don't understand, if this is considered to be a CASINO van, why do they drop you at the Thai border and don't continue the few Meters to the Casinos inside Cambo? I mean, how do those Casinos benefit from those vans (they probably subsidize the fare?) when actual passengers then can easily go anywhere else once they have been dropped at the border

Yes, of course, Cambodia visa office. The casino buses do not drop people over the border because immigration does not permit it. Even the gamblers are forced to clear Thai immigration, though probably not Cambodian. I believe Thai gamblers on these buses are often given vouchers to encourage them to visit specific casinos. There is some subsidy of the coaches by the casinos, but I do not think it needs to be much actually.
