NLA's Wallop to propose MOU on child labor with neighboring countries

BANGKOK, 11 January 2016 (NNT) - A committee under the National Legislative Assembly is planning to propose the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Thailand and its neighbors to tackle the problem of child labor.

Chairman of the NLA committee on social affairs, children, youth, women, the elderly, the handicapped and the underprivileged, Wallop Tangkananurak said that the committee has been preparing two plans to solve problems related to children; plans which it is hoped will be implemented in 2016.

One of the plans is to address issues of excessive behavior endangering others, ranging from sex to violence and narcotics, Mr. Wallop said.

He stressed that such issues are of high importance and need to be tackled.

Another plan focuses on the problem of child labor which often involves the employment of children who come from neighboring countries and whose nationalities can not be easily verified, he added.

Mr. Wanchai said that, even though Thai authorities might have rescued many ill-fated children from their plight and managed to send them back to their presumed birth countries, many tended to appear back in Thailand as child laborers soon after.

Therefore, the committee is planning more closely integrated work with related agencies and to propose a Memorandum of Understanding to be signed by the authorities in Thailand and neighboring nations, to help successfully solve this problem, he said.

I just think it's funny that someone named "Wallop" is involved with helping solve problems associated with children...

"Wallop Tangkananurak said that the committee has been preparing two plans to solve problems related to children"

My Dad used the same "Wallop" technique...worked out pretty well.

Just love that name.

We had a teacher called Mr Fox nicknamed "Foxy" or "Chicken killer" who was always threatening to "wallop" us. Very rarely did though.

Sorry, Memo of Understanding no write in Thai so me no understand.
