Thai police rule both drivers were wrong in DJ car incident

Courts should hand out sentences; police should only enforce rules and arrest people

Two months ridiculous....he used his car as a weapon...where's the required mandatory anger management classes? He promises not to do it again...like a good drunk off the bottle

True, but such misdemeanour's could be dealt with by Magistrates if Thailand were to adopt such a system as used in the UK

  • Magistrates (Justices of the Peace) could be volunteers of good character with no legal experience
  • Who sit as a team of 3 to hear cases
  • They can only pass sentences if the defendant pleads guilty
  • They can only make fines of up to £5,000 (7,500USD, 250,000THB) and/or pass sentences of no more than six month on any one offence or one year for multiple offences
  • They have strict guide lines on sentencing and often advised by court officials

If the defendant(s) plead not guilty or the maximum fine/sentence is in excess of their powers they must refer the case to a higher court.
