Unlock iPhone from Japan ?

Hi ForumMates!

It is relatively easy to have iPhones unlocked from most countries, so I understand. Japan iPhones are much more troublesome for some reason. However, I have discovered it can be done. There are a few sites where you can do it yourself over the internet. Unfortunately, these services charge around $100.

Is that as good as it gets? Aren't there any local phone shops that can hack it for 500 THB? Why is this so complicated?

Appreciate any info.

Thanks, lah!

Unless you do a hardware hack, Apple controls the SIM Lock directly. The mobile operator orders the phones from Apple that way and must also go through Apple (or an authorized agent) to have the phone SIM Unlocked.

IMEI Or Network Unlocking

Usually you can ask the mobile operator to release the phone, or go to a apple-authorized third-party agent that will have Apple SIM Unlock the phone on your behalf. But if you are not the original owner of the phone then you won't get very far.

Also note that it is against ThaiVisa's Forum Policy to discuss this topic much beyond this, especially in the form of 'how to'.
