Govt. to announce progress of illegal fishing eradication on 14 Jan

BANGKOK, 13 January 2016 (NNT) - The government is preparing to announce the progress of solutions to illegal fishing on 14 January 2016 before representatives of the EU travel to Thailand to follow up on the matter. Laws have been passed to expedite illegal fishing cases.

Government Spokesman Maj.Gen.Sansern Kaewkamnerd said after the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday that Deputy Prime Minister Gen.Prawit Wongsuwan informed the meeting of the progress of efforts to tackle illegal fishing in the country. Law enforcement, registration of fishing vessels and installation of tracking devices had progressed significantly, said the deputy PM.

The Cabinet agreed to instruct relevant units to announce the results of their anti-illegal fishing work to Thai and foreign media at Government House on 14 January 2016. They are expected to report the progress in terms of prosecution and listen to opinions of the relevant parties.

The Cabinet also approved ministerial regulations of the Ministry of Labor to prohibit people aged under 18 from working in primary seafood processing plants and an Act draft on trials of human trafficking cases.

Didn't they announce progress before a few months ago in preparation for the initial date of the EU report last month just prior to that news release damning them for still having human rights issues? And will the EU accept verbal assurances for quick hearings on violations for the new laws and will the EU believe that prejudices won't be made to the upper echelon who violate those laws? Will the EU believe in lip service and not issue that red card?
