I'm looking for confirmation of the information the immigration officer told my wife.

According to my wife I can convert my 30 day VISA exempt entry to a multi non-o based on marriage. I need to show 40K in my Thai bank account for 2 months for the first time applying.

Is this correct?

  • Yes you can do a conversion as long as you have at least 15 days left of your permission to stay. You need 400k in a Thai bank on the day of application. It doesn't need to be in the account for 2 months OR a certified income of 40k pm.
  • It usually involves two trip to Bangkok immigration but some offices will accept the application.
  • Once you've done the conversion you are granted a 90 day stay. In the last 30 days of that stay you can apply for a 1 year extension of stay. At this time you need to have 400k in the bank for at least 2 months or an income of 40k.

p.s. if you don't have 15 days left or need more time to apply you could get a 30 or 60 day extension and apply for the conversion during that 30/60 days.

Not exactly

With 400,000 in the bank you can convert to a Non Imm O Visa. 2000 baht fee.

You can then apply for a 12 month extension based on Marriage.

You would have to do this in Bangkok.

Using my phone so info is a bit basic

It depends upon the immigration office she was talking to..

One big stipulation is that you must have 15 days reaming on your entry or the 30 day extension of it to apply for the conversion.

I think you meant 400k baht in the bank on the date you apply for it not 40k baht. You do not need the money in the bank for 2 months until you apply for the extension during the last 30 days of the 90 day non immigrant visa entry you get from conversion.
