Deputy PM Prawit receives South Korean, French Ambassadors

BANGKOK, 14 January 2016 (NNT) – The South Korean and French Ambassadors to Thailand have paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, with a view to strengthening bilateral relations.

Gen Prawit gave a warm welcome to HE Mr Noh Kwang-il, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, as well as HE Mr Gilles Garachon, Ambassador of France to Thailand, during their visit with him at the Ministry of Defense.

On behalf of their countries, the two ambassadors expressed readiness to take to the next level the existing cooperation with Thailand in such fields as trade, military affairs and national defense. They also affirmed their governments’ intentions to continue exchanging official visits with Thailand in the future.

This year marks the 160th anniversary of the Thai-French diplomatic relations. The two countries have been engaged in close military ties and cooperation, with constant exchanges of visits.

With the Thai military in control of the government and the national trreasury, no doubt both Korea and France want to be part of the RTM spending spree on weapon systems. An elected government may have different priorties, so time is of the essence to ingratiate themselves with the current government.

Different priorities - like securing an off budget outside parliamentary scrutiny 2.2 trillion baht loan for instance? Or placing a large water management contract with a company without bothering with EIA, public consultations or a strict RFQ process - but seemingly allowing a known criminal fugitive to act as a middleman?

Yes, very different priorities, but some how same same.
