Alongkorn: NRSA hands over reform reports to CDC

BANGKOK, 16 January 2016 (NNT) – A deputy speaker of the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) said the reform body had already submitted reform reports of its committees to the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) for a review.

Alongkorn Ponlaboot, first NRSA deputy speaker, said all of the reports submitted by NRSA’s reform committees had been forwarded to the charter drafting team whereas the same reports are being proposed to the prime minister and his cabinet, which is in line with the second phase of the reform roadmap.

He said the NRSA whip will reconvene on January 18-19 to go over economic reform which includes the restructuring of economic fundamentals, with the ultimate aim of improving living standards of the poor.

Other agendas to be discussed during the meeting are law and justice reform, police reform, and media reform.

The meeting will be chaired by NRSA speaker Capt Tinnapan Nakata.

We can only guess at this point. In my darkest moments, I wonder if the economic model in mind is China.

Recent articles have mentioned "police reform", with no details whatsoever.

And what can be said about "media reform"? All indications are that will be the Chinese approach also, in which the media are strapped to the national agenda.

But I am perhaps overestimating the NRSA. Their "reports" could be a more typical committee effort, with lots of bullet points, and few ideas truly baked.
