Ayutthaya to distribute water-saving plants to over 10,000 farmers

AYUTTHAYA, 18 January 2016, (NNT) - Saplings of drought-resistant crops will be distributed to farmers in Ayutthaya, as part of the provincial policy to reduce farmers’ expenses.

Ayutthaya Provincial Agricultural Extension Office Chief Paisarn Sangmongkol stated that water-saving plants, such as green beans and a variety of vegetables, will soon be distributed to more than 10,000 local farmers. The move is one of the assistance measures adopted by the province, with the intention to help farmers reduce their production costs.

Distribution of these alternative crops followed the success of a previous program, which persuaded off-season rice farmers to switch to other crops that require less water to grow. The program resulted in a shorter cultivation period and a higher income to the participants.

Another aid measure for local farmers is also being carried out by provincial officers. Agricultural needs have been carefully surveyed and compiled, while over 300 projects with a combined value worth 119 million baht have also been prepared.

Whereas what they need are water generating plants. But hey, they are plants!

Look out for the Government to be buying the excess of green beans,

at above market price, when every farmer starts growing them.

Surplus for only a brief spell, before the floods kill them off...

Next will be an announcement by the government that China will buy tons of green beans at above market price, coincidentally at the same time Thailand will buy more military equipment from China.

Might be a lot of saplings on sale at the local markets in the coming days.......
