BANGKOK: -- Confidence index for the industrial sector for December slightly increased to 87.5 from 85.8 in November, said Mr Suphan Mongkolsuthee, president of Federation of Thai Industries.

Altogether 1,201 business operators representing 44 industrial clusters of the FTI were surveyed about their confidence toward the economy.

The increased confidence index was attributable to a number of factors among them overall purchasing orders, overall sale figures, production figures and business performance, sale promotion campaign held in December, Motor Expo and tax breaks.

The increased confidence index for December was the fourth in a row. However, confidence index for the industrial sector in the next three months is expected to lower to 102.7 from November’s 104.4 largely due to concern over decreasing domestic demand after consumers have accelerated their expenses at yearend in car and electronic appliances purchases, drought, global economic fluctuations and terrorism threats.
