tgeezer
Does anybody know anywhere selling good chestnuts in Bangkok? I have been a customer for many years and the quality has gone the way of durian which also used be be expensive but of good quality. I prefer the large Chinese varieties but chestnuts from Japan were always smaller and more expensive. I have bought in Jatuchak the Farmers cooperative, the Mall at Nontburi, Bon Marche( a Burman who knows nothing has taken over there) but they are all small and badly cooked; in each kilo many don't shed their inner skin easily. I suspect that there are no longer independent sellers who buy from wholesalers, expert at selecting and cooking chestnuts and selling them in funnels made from newspaper. They now come in a pretty box in a plastic bag which causes sweating and softening so that they can't be peeled if kept long that way. But it isn't only that, I feel that the customer base has become too big so that inferior chestnuts are coming to market.

tgeezer
I went there on Sat. morning, found Wat Dry mitr. But didn't ask anybody and it didn't look promising. Where do I go? Is there a market in the daytime?
