No transfer of stamp to new passport !

Featured Replies

I have a new passport. Being a good boy I went straight to imm. in Chengwattana to transfer my visa stamp to the new passport. But they didn't do it. They just said no need to transfer anything, just go to the border with both the old and the new passport and check out of Thailand. What ??????????????????????

This is what they said: Your current visa stamp is just a 90 day non-imm O border stamp. And you plan to leave at the end of these 90 days and not apply for any extension at immigration inside Thailand. In this case there is nothing to transfer. Just take your passports and go.

I have a bad feeling about walking around with two valid passports. And what if they don't understand at the border that I don't need a transfer. And what about the Thai consulate in Savannakhet ?

Maybe there is no need to worry ? They know about these things ?

No need to worry :)

This is correct, I've done it myself.

If you had a longer term visa things might be a bit different.

A few years ago I was on a triple entry tourist visa when I had my new passport delivered to me in Bangkok, I was on the last entry so the visa was already used up.

I took both passports to the airport and left. The immigration guy stamped me out in the old passport and told me to use the new passport the next time I come into the country.

First off if you have a new passport then your old passport is no longer valid. The immigration officer was correct in stating that you are just required to bring both passports with you when exiting Thailand.

You will have no issues upon exiting.

Immigration was correct.

You show both passports on departure from the country and they will transfer your entry/permit to stay to the new one and stamp you out of the country in it.

If your visa is still valid in the old passport you would show both passports on entry to the country to use the visa and they will stamp you into the country in the new one.

If you are going to apply for a new visa in you just use your new passport at the consulate.

How about this situation. I currently have a multi entry O based on marriage but my passport is nearly full. I will be back in the UK in June and will get a new passport then. When I return to Bangkok with both passports in July will the multi entry in the old one still be valid although passport is cancelled ....hence permitting 90 days on arrival ........ or will I only be entitled to 30 days on arrival and then have to go to Suv for another multi.

( no point applying for new one in the UK as they are really unfriendly )

Visas remain valid and can be used even if contained within a cancelled Passport.

If the visa is valid just present both passports to the IO and you will receive permission to enter/stay for 90 days.

If the visa is still in date on your return you can still use it and get 90 days.

Who is unfriendly? I get the same visa as you each year at Cardiff consulate and the service there can't be faulted.

Your visa will remain valid in your old passport until it expires. You show both passports on entry to the country to use the visa in the old one and they will stamp the 90 day entry in the new one.
