LAMPANG, 22 January 2016, (NNT) – Deputy Lampang provincial governor Somchai Kitcharoenrungroj said the province and eight others in the upper northern region, namely Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Payao, Prae, Nan, Lampoon, Mae Hong Son and Tak, will be affected by wild fires and haze between December and April annually.

He added that Lampang province has launched five major measures as guidelines for preventing and tackling wild fires and haze problems in 2016.

Those measures include efficient management with the help of technology, organized campaigns and public relations, protecting and monitoring risk areas, promoting and creating networks with the participation of all sectors and law enforcement officials who will prosecute those who may have torched forests.

Those who set fire to the forests will be arrested and prosecuted with a maximum penalty of two to 15 years in prison and a fine of 20,000 to 150,000 baht.

So, that penalty will actually equal out to about 10,000 fine and suspended sentence??? How can they monitor every person and how can they find out who threw that lit cigarette which started a fire?

I can't ever recall any news about someone being arrested or caught lighting a first fire here.

Once again we read the false declarations of action to rid the area of the fires that plague the area. How do I asses it to be false? Previous years with their declarations have done nothing...

"Haze between December - April"... some of the best times of year to be here in the North and they're smoking people out. How many? Who knows, but I am sure a percentage of people that read about CM, about the smoke decide on alternative locations during this time. People that live here, vote with their feet and leave for a period of time until it's clear.

Does the north lose revenue during this time? Who knows.
Can CM or the north afford to lose these dollars?
Will it change the direction of flow of overseas people moving here to retire?

Why only Lampang province?

get those other lazy b....of their behinds and get them to work for their salaries. In addition fine each policeman 150.000 baht for not doing the job he swore to do. And fine Prajuth the same amount for not doing his job.

Same old BS every year.
