Existing Tourist Visas

Featured Replies

Good evening!

I have a single entry Tourist Visa (from Singapore - $50) obtained Sept 8th before the changes (visa - not sex!)

Do I have to still extend on November 8th or does it come under the new rules and I can go out and get a visa come December?

I thank you

What "new rules" are you talking about? The primary new rules are a max 90 days on visa exempt entries during a six month period which would not seem to be what you are talking about. There has been no change to make a tourist visa entry more than 60 days. But the 60 days is from day of entry into Thailand - not the date it is issued by a Consulate (unless you enter the same day).

A single entry tourist visa cost 25 USD not 50 USD, unless you are taking about Singapore Dollars. What does "visa-not sex" suppose to mean?

I believe... it was a joke : visa changes (not sex change)...

Er um, a joke yes. Least I thought it was. :o

As for the 'changes' I was referring to. I understand that the single entry tourist visas are as usual valid for 3 months, but that from the 1st October you no longer have to extend after two? And secondly my question was if I obtained a visa before that date does this apply to me?

I find your questions a bit confusing, i.e. I do not know what you are asking.

A single-entry tourist visa is valid for one entry into Thailand during 90 days from the date of issue of the visa.

When you enter Thailand on a tourist visa, you receive permission to stay for 60 days from the date of entry. At your option, you may apply at any immigration office in Thailand for an extension of stay (fee 1,900 Baht) and will usually be granted an extension of 30 days.

You may apply for an extension of stay regardless of when you obtained your visa or entered Thailand.

I have no idea what you mean when you say “have to extend after two”

Your information is likely based on an incorrect report from a Pattaya publication. The normal 60 days are allowed on entry with a tourist visa (for most). The only change in tourist visas are for the group of 20 or so countries that now get 30 day entry but then can extend for another 30 days twice.

Thanks for that. Yes, I probably read it in a Pattaya publication - of course I can't find where I read it! Hence my posts.

My recollection was that it was no longer necessary to go to Immigration to extend when the 60 days were up, it's automatically vaild for 90.
