Preferably I would like to talk to a lawyer to discuss my options without paying a heavy consultation fee. What sort of money do lawyers charge here for a consultation? Otherwise I think it's safe to assume that all lawyers here will charge a lot and will do little. The noisy farang ones in particular have probably all run away back home anyway. The tourist police (Thai staff at headquarters) recommended I find a lawyer LOL Why did you come to the conclusion that there aren't any good lawyers in Pattaya? - have you tried them all? Maybe my memory is just bad. I have had some experience with lawyers here thanks to my position on my condo committee. I was not impressed. I also follow the local news which leaves me even less impressed by local lawyers, particularly the farang ones. These are just my opinions. Do with them as you will. It makes no difference to me. Personally the further I am from any lawyer the happier I am. As I mentioned (and which you ignored), as far as I know you should still be able to get a free consultation with a lawyer at the Tourist Court which is conveniently situated at the top of Thappraya Road. Like lawyer that can compare things to UK law is going to be more use to British people and vice versa for American Otherwise, a good Thai lawyer with good command of English should be enough The farang ones that seem to have a lot of presence though...can they even practice law legally even? look at how one we should mention turns out.... Of course, a good Farang consultant would be very useful. It's a minefield here though, because foreigners are seen by law firms as a very good source of income and we're easy prey. The legal profession in Pattaya from top to bottom is full of bent unqualified people who will sell you out to the other side if the price is right. Litlos Posted January 23, 2016 Share Posted January 23, 2016 I have used Magna Carta for two items and was happy both times. They have expats and English speaking Thai's. Both of my matters were civil (land transfer and notary) rather than criminal. Not cheap though. For reference I will probably go back to them for a new will based on previous experiences. I initially used them to set up the Thai company to buy the house, get my UK driving licenses converted, setting up a pre-nuptial agreement, writing my Thai Will, certifying documents for use in the UK. I have my annual accounts prepared there. I used them a lot for advice before I discovered Thai Visa! Most (all?) off the advice was free and I was only charged when I asked them to actually do something. Mind you, the advice may have been free as I was using and paying for their services in other areas. They are not particularly cheap, nor are they all that expensive. For example the annual accounts cost 15000 baht, whereas I know I could get it done for 12000 baht elsewhere. However, I know they will do the accounts properly. I have no idea who the 'farang bouncer' is mentioned by one poster above, when I go to their office, I go to the reception that has 1 or 2 Thai girls sitting there, who ask me if I want tea or coffee or water whilst I wait. Many reputable Law firms will give you an initial consultation (usually an hour) free of charge. I used him for 2 court appearances. I can't say who he is, but I need someone a lot better. Someone mentioned on another thread a firm called "Thai Euro Law" near Big C South. If you are coming from Sukhumvit, it's the last left before 3rd Road. Big office used by Thai & farang. Seemed honest. For farang I was impressed with Hans Lankari office near Tai & 3rd Road.
