Connecting a Smart Fone or Tablet to a Standard HD Led TV.as a Charitible Gesture

Hello,

I'm no expert to these matters as I do not need to be as my fone is a 6 year old, basic Nokia that cost 640 baht, and my PC does all the computing I need., but I am going to be out of Bkk for 2 months.

I have a 5 year old LG 47 inch LED TV with Hdmi ports, etc, and would like to lend it to the Thai family who run the restaurant in my block and feed me for free as I teach their daughter for nothing for 2 hours a week. They are good people but not rich, and this would be a nice surprise for them, especially as the TV would otherwise be sitting around doing nothng.

However, to get the full benefit from the TV, they would need to be able to plug their cheap smart fones and tablets into it in order to use it as a monitor in order to use it to their full advantage; downloads, you tube. games etc.,from their devices.

Can this easily be done and, if so, how?

If not, are there certain cables and things I would need to get to make sure it can be done.

Any advice on the feasibilty or impossibility of this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all,

Soi Sauce

Thanks both. Cannot find the model number of my TV. The manual is in Thai and does not list the model number and the back just has LG and a million digits on it. No LG HDLEd 4715 or anything like that.

Would like more chromecast info as applies to Thailand if avaialble, or any other ways to do what is required.

As said, I am not a tekkie in anyway, and find all this confusing. I use my PC for downloading, transferring the movies to thumb drives, then running them thru my TV. Beyond that, mailing, preparing word documents, you tube, and reading UK and American papers, I am basically lost. However, that is really all I need.

Wanna make this special though for those downstairs as they are great people who deserve something back for all the work they put in.

Pls give me as much info as u can.

Cheers,

Soi

Suspect you do not have a SMART TV in that case (which can do many internet/interface functions built in) so an android of Chrome type attachment might be useful - but they probably would have a better understanding of what required if you ask them (or the child) - I have never used any as watch my TV on computer.

Reckon you're right re the kid. Will ask her as, like me, my TV is not smart, but she is, and the youngsters know tekk from birth. We learnt languages, they learn how to hack NASA!

Also, like you, I do watch a lot of my TV on my PC, but do like to transfer the good stuff, ex the New Star wars, Hateful 8, Spectre etc, thru thumb drives to my big screen. Pc's in the bedroom but big tv, with accompayning kick ass spkr system, 1.2k baht from Prakanong 12 yrs back and still going strong, makes for a far better experience and that's in my living room. Not being a big Charlie here as my 64 sq m 2 rooms costs 9k per month.

I suppose that is why we still have cinemas, although the equivalant can just about be had at home now and it's cheaper and better in your own place as you can pause, piss, smoke and drink when u want. You can even order up 2 for 1 pizzas, which cinemax does not allow.

That is why I would like to find a solution to this possible problem in order to enhance the lives of a family who have never experienced what we take for granted.

Tekkies, pls help.

Thanks

If their phones or tablets have a mini hdmi port then the easiest way is to get a mini hdmi to hdmi cable and plug em in, easy peasy.

Many thanks, sounds good and will check on it.

Cheers.

Get a chromecast, there is a Thai language forum dedicated to chromecast.www.thaichromecast.com

I've got a chromecast myself but never use it, good cables are so much easier.

Thanks all for you advice. Will go for the cable option as it will easily allow thenm to connect all their devices, 4 in all, to the TV.

Lent them the thing this morning and they freaked. It destroys the 20 inch CRT lump they have.Took a Thai friend with me who speaks perfect English, so he was able to explain in Thai what they need to do to maximise usage of the TV.

Also, gave the family my bike for the 2 months I'm away. It's only an old but totally relable Honda Wave, 123,000 km with never a problem, to save the mother having to cycle the kid 3km each way to skool everyday. Better to see it put to good use than have it idle in the car park here.

The joy on their faces was wondeful and massively satisfying to see.

To be able to greatly improve a family's lifestyle, even if only for 2 months, feels great.

Wish more of us could do it more often.

Thanks again then for all your help. You have helped to bring a lot of happiness to a family not as lucky as us.
