Court upholds life imprisonment for serial child rapist-murderer 'Nui'

BANGKOK: -- The Appeal Court yesterday upheld a life imprisonment term for "Nui," the serial child rapist and killer who confessed to sexually assaulting about 10 children and killing four of them.

The 35-year-old man, identified only as Nui, was given a life sentence for the rape and murder of a 4-year-old girl he had lured from her grandfather at a Red Cross Fair in Loei province on Feb. 5, 2013.

Nui told the victim he would buy her snacks before he sexually assaulted and strangled her in a roadside forest.

The Appeal Court's decision yesterday was based on the original sentence given by the Criminal Court in July 2015.

I'm opposed to the death penalty, but could someone please explain to me why the B2 get the death penalty for (allegedly) killing two adult tourists while this guy kills four children and sexually assaults several others and gets 'only' a life sentence. On second thought, never mind....

He had the gall to appeal,hope he is getting the same respect he gave his victims,while in jail.

I can't really disagree with the court on this one - let him rot in jail.

On a side note - does a life sentence actually mean the whole life in prison - or is it in reality 25, 30, 40 or X years?

Because he pleaded guilty, that's usually enough to get the sentence reduced to life though it didn't work for the train employee who raped, killed and threw the body of a 13 year old girl off the train. But how could Nui appeal? He could hardly appeal against the sentence- multiple murders and surely no new evidence. It must be automatic in murder cases. He can't last long in prison, amazing he's lived this long.

That's a very sick thing to say. Shame on you. This was an incredibly emotional crime involving beautiful kiddies and their families, not to mention the sadness that it brought to those of us - of every nationality and ethnicity - who cherish children.

yeah, I know that might be a factor. However, there was a story just today about a ladyboy who threw her roommate's chihuahua out the window to its death, and despite her guilty plea / confession, the judge refused to reduce the sentence because the act was so cruel. That same logic should apply here, no?
