Any issues with this?... as l have left it too late to apply for a Change of Visa to "Non O" , due to the 15 day rule.....and thus l think getting a 30 day extension before my 60 Day Tourist Visa expires (Single Entry) in Jomtien, then heading to Bangkok a few days later, and applying for Non O with the necessary documentation, might be the best plan of attack.

Would greatly appreciate any feedback in case the above won't work for some reason.

It depends on your reason for wanting the non-O visa, respectively on your reason for applying for a one-year extension after getting the non-O visa.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place. — George Bernard Shaw

You may be able to lodge an application at Jomtien after obtaining the 30 day extension.

You will also have to provide evidence of meeting the financial requirements for an extension of stay.

Extension based on retirement

Really ! Certainly won't hurt to ask.

In regards to meeting financial requirements, l am confident that l have that in order.

You can apply for the 30 day extension and apply for the change during the same trip to immigration.

You can apply for the change to a non immigrant visa at Jomtien and they will send it to Bangkok for approval. If using money in the bank it does not have to be there for 60 days.

Hmm, a subject of ongoing confusion for me....

I have an extension to my tourist visa already. Do I understand correctly that, with necessary documentation, I can convert to a "Non "O"" for retirement purposes right here in Bangkok? I had been tentatively planning a trip to Laos next month to apply at the embassy, but if it can be done at Chaengwattana so much the better.

You can apply for it if you have 15 day remaining on the extension when you apply for it.

It will that two trips to immigration 15 days apart to get the visa/entry stamps.

If using the money in the bank option the bank letter must also state the funds came from abroad.

Thanks so much, Ubonjoe!

I had somehow gotten the idea I had to get the "O" visa outside of the kingdom....

I will need to make an appointment with the US Embassy right away to get my income letter.

As I remember, when I applied for the conversion to non-O, it only took me that one trip to immigration. Have things changed? Or perhaps my memory is faulty....

It used to be so before approval was centralised in Bangkok

I've just turned 50 and was planning to do the conversion from Tourist to Non-O for retirement purpose next week in Jomtien. I've had the 800k+ in my account for over 3 years however the money was built up when I was legitimately employed in Thailand for just under a year. Clearly the money didn't come from abroad so am I wasting my time applying in Thailand and better off flying to Vientiene to get my Non-O. Bit annoying since obviously I'd rather not incur the extra cost but I need to secure my 1 year extension to non-o before the beginning of May when I'm due to fly out for a month, so don't want to waste 15 days only to be told no. Thanks

If you can present proof you were working here they would accept that instead of having the proof it came from abroad. If you have had the money in the bank for a long time already that could also negate the need for the proof the funds came from abroad. The reason they want proof it came from abroad is to prevent people from being able to borrow the money to apply for the visa since it does not have to be in bank for any amount of time to apply for it.

Thank you for the reply and information Joe. I've got my bank pass books to hand showing my complete transaction history back to 2012 when I first hit the 800k so probably easiest to take those along with my current bank letter and see what they say. Am I correct in saying passport and bank book is sufficient for Vientiene if Jomtien's a no ?

I think they will do the visa at Jomtien with that long a history for having the money in bank.

Vientiane only wants a bank book showing the money in bank on the date you apply.
