Ex Thai Ambassador to France receives Legion of Honour decoration

BANGKOK, 29 January 2016 (NNT) – The former Thai ambassador to France has been awarded with France’s Legion of Honour decoration in a ceremony held at the French Embassy in Bangkok.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ (MFA) Permanent-Secretary Apichart Chinwanno, a former Thai ambassador to France, has received the National Order of the Legion of Honour (Ordre national de la L?gion d’Honneur ) decoration in the Commander rank.

He has received the declaration from the French Ambassador to Thailand, Gilles Garachon, in a ceremony attended by delegates from government agencies and private companies held at French Embassy in Bangkok.

On this occasion, the MFA permanent-secretary has given his remarks saying that Thailand and France have enjoyed long lasting relations for more than three centuries, including the occasion when Thailand sent its soldiers to join the First World War with the Allied Powers.

He has said Thailand will take this opportunity as the coordinator of ASEAN and Europe to strengthen relations and partnerships between both regions, and expressed his gratitude to the government of France through the French Ambassador for the honour he has received.

The Legion of Honour (La L?gion d’Honneur) is the highest decoration of France, first awarded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to officials and general public who have contributed to the fame and benefit of France. The decoration is also given to foreign nationals who have contributed to the nation.

This is the same Honor as you get when you open a box of Cracker Jack ! ( my opinion )

Victory Cross, Medal of Honor, these are real awards.

The French turned and ran time and time again; leaving the Brit's and Canadians, to fight till the death with the Germans.

The French always gave up and asked the Real Allies to fight for their country.

The Real Allies, USA, UK, Canada, Aussie/Kiwi; saved the French from the new name, German Fries, not French Fries.

Not sure about Thailands involvement in the first war. If they did help good on them.

But in WW2 the Thai's sided with Japan. I think they also declared war on the States ?

How are we expected to mock him if we don't know the reason he was given the honor?

Honour??These people don't know the meaning of the word, along with compassion, love, truthfulness, honesty.I can imagine the question when japan lost the war.

'Dont worry,we will simply change sides'

What did the then prime minster say then?

'There is no evidence that the Americans plan to drop any bombs on japan'

This decoration has about as much credibility as the victory monument in Bangkok. Who was that victory supposedly over again ?

France passes out medals like most people pass out M&M's. Wonder what it was this Thai Ambassador did to deserve this medal? coffee1.gif

4.3 million French dead tells a different story.

Well yes - although I quite like our Gallic cousins, and am a bit of a Francophile, your post does remind me of the old military question:

How many Divisions does it take to defend Paris?

We don't know, it has never been tried!

I think that the Thais piled in on the side of the Allies in the First World War to keep on the right side of the British and French, as they were nervous about both countries colonial ambitions in this part of the world.

Good thing the Germans didn't win, or we would be living in "Knallschwanz".

I bet you ask for freedom fries quite a lot...

I agree that this decoration is now given to nearly anybody but i wonder how much worth the ones you speak about when it was during all the wars won by USA or England si ce ww2...vietnam: lost, iraq:great success, Libya:happy ending, everywhere in Afriqa: same,... well not see much great wins... not speaking about aussies and kiwi... which one already they were involved in and won since ww2?...

Will he wear this honour medal next to the wings he got given for jumping out of a plane?
