BANGKOK:-- Metropolitan police have launched an investigation after human body parts were found washed up along different locations of the Chao Phraya River.

On Saturday morning, a worker at Thanon Mangsachart dockyard went to investigate an usual foul smell coming close to where he was working in the Bang Phlat area of the city. The worker called police when he saw a human arm washed up in the undergrowth of the riverbank.

Throughout Sunday, police were then called to various locations throughout the district as more body parts started to be discovered.

Around lunch time, the operator of a long tail boat discovered part of a human leg in the river in Nonthaburi.

A local man then reported discovering a human torso in water close to Wat Phothongbon also in Nonthaburi.

A short time later, local residents alerted police after they found a head wrapped in a plastic bag next to the their house on the river, close to where the human torso was found.

Police told reporters that initial examinations of the body suggested that they had come from an Asian man, however, they would need to wait for a proper medical report to determine if the body parts are from the same person.

Police are also studying missing person reports and taking witness statements from those who discovered the parts to try and establish any information on the victim.

BANGKOK: -- Police are investigating body parts that washed up in different locations along the Chao Phraya River across Bangkok over the weekend.

Four human body parts, including a head, a torso, an arm, and the lower part of a leg from the knee to the calf were discovered in different locations of the river. They were sent to the Police Hospital's Institute of Forensic Medicine for DNA testing.

The condition of the parts suggested they were in the river for about two days. Police have yet to confirm if they are from the same person.

Why are human body parts washing up in the Chao Phraya River?
STAFF WRITER

chao-phraya-river-body-parts.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A human head, torso, arm and leg have all separately washed up in the Chao Phraya River over this weekend.

DNA is currently being tested although it’s still unknown at this stage whether the parts belong to the same person. Sources have however suggested the victim could be an Asian male, reports the Bangkok Post.

The smell and aesthetic condition of the body parts suggests they had been in the river for around two days before they were found.

Timeline of events

Saturday morning

The first part to wash up was an arm, found covered in weeds and emanating a rancid smell by a dockyard worker near Wat Kharuehabodee in the Bang Phlat district of Bangkok.

Pol Lt Col Suphap Phetcharat, speaking on behalf of the Borwornmongkol police station in Bang Phlat, said the arm bore a significant wound that may suggest a measure of torture had taken place. The arm was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for DNA identification.

Human parts found in Chao Phraya may be from same person

224-wpcf_728x410.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Police investigators said they believed several body parts received from the Chao Phraya river at two locations in Nonthaburi and Pathumthani provincials on Saturday and Sunday belonged to a same person.

Pol Lt Col Suparb Phetcharat, investigator of Bovornmongkol police station of Bangkok’s Bang Plad district said the additional finding of the arm yesterday was believed to be from the same person.

The arm was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for DNA testing and fingerprints would also be taken to see if it matched those of any Thai national.

There was a severe wound on the arm suggesting the person could have been tortured, he said.

Yesterday several human parts which included a one foot long right knee believed to be of a man was retrieved from the river at different locations.

A ferry driver Wichien Sooktho spotted the lower part of a leg, from the knee to the calf in Nonthaburi’s Muang district.

He said he used a rope to bring it to a pier in front of Wat Tamnak Tai and called the police.

Mr Wichian said he also spotted another body part on Saturday morning and took a picture of it before it was washed away by strong tides.

The head wrapped in plastic bag was also retrieved yesterday.

The Bangkok Post reported that an arm was found by dockyard worker in Bangkok’s Bang Phlat district on Saturday morning.

The arm washed up covered in water weeds on the riverbank near Wat Kharueha Bodi and was giving off a foul smell.

According to police investigators, it is possible the human parts are from the same person, possibly an Asian male.

The condition of the parts indicated they were in the river for about two days.

Pol Maj Gen Uthasin Ritruangdej, commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Division 7, said he has ordered investigators to look into missing person reports and cases, and look for clues about the victim.

The investigation will focus on the past seven days and include the three provinces of Bangkok, Nonthanburi and Samut Prakan, he said.

He said the torso had golden hairs on the chest that indicated the victim might be a foreigner.

Police officers inspect a boat pier Saturday in Bangkok’s Bang Phlat district where a human arm washed up.

BANGKOK — Police have yet to identify an apparent murder victim whose body parts were found scattered in the Chao Phraya River during the weekend.

Investigators believe the victim was a male foreigner and some speculate he might have run afoul of transnational crime, although forensic police said they need more time to confirm the identity.

“We still don’t know who he is, but at this moment, we believe it’s murder,” said Col. Montri Theskhan, commander of Nonthaburi City Police Station, one of the jurisdictions in which the body parts were found.

An arm was the first to be discovered floating next to a boat pier Saturday in the northern Bangkok district of Bang Phlat. Since then, a leg, torso and head were discovered in the suburbs of Bangkok.

Montri said he was confident the parts belonged to the same person.

a one foot long right knee

That's a big knee.

children look on at chopped up bodys !!!

nice to see the keep thailand clean campaign is still going strong

As an expert opinion, I would say there is more to come to add to this story, as at the moment parts don't add up

... "and some speculate he might have run afoul of transnational crime,"...

Yep BiB are on the case... fast speculating then quickly have another case solved.

who is missing ? could it be a certain Chinese man that everyone has been looking for recently

“We still don’t know who he is, but at this moment, we believe it’s murder,” said Col. Montri Theskhan, commander of Nonthaburi City Police Station

Brilliant deduction, absolutely brilliant. But of course he might have dismembered himself committing suicide.

what a tricky suicide

We still dont know who he is, but at this moment, we believe its murder,

Really? I was thinking about suicide cutting self at pieces

A lot of tales to tell if that river could speak.

If this becomes more common, they might consider following India's example and introduce snapping turtles - a method of disposing of singed rather than cremated bodies.

Last I heard, the biggest problem was the Indians were eating the turtles faster than the turtles were eating the Indians.

If they look a harder they'll find a more in there..

Why are human body parts washing up in the Chao Phraya River?

I think it has something to do with someone tossing them in .....

So much garbage in the river it is a wonder anyone noticed.

Lets not rule out a suicide yet! We need to give some time to the RTP to investigate and bring in some specialists!

As an expert opinion, I would say there is more to come to add to this story, as at the moment parts don't add up

Perhaps you could offer them a hand?

Hopefully it isn't the student activist who was arrested a few nights ago by guys in army uniforms in ramkamheng ....

"Launch an investigation" after body parts are found. Now that's novel. Oh for the love of Buddha!

Everything in this story is pointing to a suicide...why some members on here are questioning this is ridiculous.

The head was obviously the last thing the man chopped off...

He was seen arguing on the phone last night and was in debt, then chopped his arms legs and head off.. Then jumped in the water.

Edited by wow64

Definitely suicide by jumping into the rotor blades of a helicopter hovering over the Chao Phraya River. The head then eventually was pushed into an open plastic bag by the current. Case closed. All of you doubters - shut up! smile.png

Maybe it's the body parts of the cleaner who found the murdered backpackers on Koh Tao. There were rumours on the TV thread that the person who found the bodies was killed and dismembered.

'Police stumped'.....same old same old then. No worries; if it's a Foreigner it's an obvious suicide !

Report No 1----- police think body parts from Thai

Report No 2----- police look for report of missing Thai

Report No3------- police say chest has GOLDEN hairs on chest

Report No 4------(yet to be stated) Police look for missing Thai with GOLDEN hairs on chest-------- Sugestion----Do research and keep mouth closed !!!!!!!!cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif
