Dutch police train eagles to pluck amateur drones from the sky

606x341_323054.jpg

AMSTERDAM: -- Dutch police are training eagles to remove drones they say pose a threat to public safety.

Sjoerd Hoogendoorn of “Guard from Above,” the company working with police to develop the concept, said the birds must be trained to recognise the drones as prey.

Hoogendoorn said their claws are tough enough to seize most amateur drones without injury from the blades.

The birds are rewarded with a piece of meat after each successful foray.

Police are expected to make a decision on whether to go ahead with using the eagles is expected by the end of the year.

Uh-oh... Sooner or later, someone will invent the "fighter drone", and then things will get interesting.

Chain mail leggings and the eagles are ready. Something very satisfying about this ;)

Outstanding! I hope some entrepreneurs will train some birds to be contracted to the public. It could be something like the alligator and snake removers in the South USA. Got a pesky drone buzzing your backyard swimming pool? Call the drone removers. No need to use the shot gun.

More abuse of animals...bah.gif

I don't recall the post you're referring to.

I do recall this post though, which originated 7 days ago already.
