Hello

i am currently staying in thailand for an internship in a thai company and my visa is about to expire.

Before i went to thailand i got a letter from my company to the thai embassy which told them if they could give me a 12 month multiple entry visa, but for some reason i only got a 90 days non immigrant "ED" visa but they told me i could easily extend it in thailand at a immigration office. So today i went to the immigration office to try and get an extension but they told me they could not give it to me for some reason, only a 7 days extension :-( which is not enough since i need 70-90 days more.

so what can i do now?? do i have to leave the country and make a new one??? and is it possible to get another non immigrant "ED" visa??

and where is it the easiest and cheapest place for me to go if i have to leave the country to make a new one? i am staying in BangSaen between bangkok and pattaya

Regards Patrick

P.S i don´t have a PH.D in thai visa rules so i can´t figure out what to do:-(

You only need 90 more days.....................simple.

If your from a country that is under the visa exempt rule, just do 3 x 30 day visa runs and then you will get your 90 days ( or 6 x 15 day visa runs depending where your from )

Or just do 1 visa run, get your 30 day free stamp and extend that at immigration 2 more times giving you 30 more days each extension making a total of 90 days.

Or leave and apply for a tourist visa, which will give you 60 days plus 1 30 day extension.

No problems man............you have alot of options, if your sure your only gonna be here 70-90 more days.

Not sure why you got an "Ed" visa? Do you have a work permit? I surmise you are working.

If you are an intern at a company. You should have a 'B" visa and a work permit. I have two Interns on scholarships that work at our firm from Holland that both have work permits. They both get pocket money every month. In the past this has been the same, where even though a intern just got pocket money, they are eligible for the extension of stay based on business. ( Interns are exempt from minimum salary)

You should go to KL or Singapore and get another 90 day visa. Take the company documents with the invite letter. Get a work permit if you are working as a intern!

Good luck.

Hello i honestly don´t know why i got the non immigrant "ED" visa, because the documents which i presented to the embassy clearly shows that i am going on an internship, maybe they define internships as an educational stay....

so i can´t go to cambodia for example to get it fixed?? and do i need a visa to enter singapore??

thanks for your help mate

i think it is really stupid that this kind of things can´t be fixed in thailand but you have to leave the country

Yes, you will get 30 days free being from Denmark.

So you can just do 3 visa runs, each visa run will give you 30 days.

This is not a tourist visa, being from Denmark you come under the visa exempt ruel, you are alowd a total of 90 days in a 6 month period in Thailand under this rule, so as long as you dont plan to stay here longer than 90 days, you will be fine doing the visa runs.

But do please remember that if you are working (and an internship is considered as working AFAIK) then this option would be illegal.

Better to go with Sunbelt's advice and get another B from Singapore followed by a work permit :o

yikes but 3 visa runs is 3 days wasted on doing absolutely nothing sitting rotting up in a car:-( maybe it would be better to get a tourist visa for 60 days and then extend it for 30 days at the immigration office just to safe the time

but thanks dude

You are welcome.

You have already been rejected on the extension. This is why you were given 7 days to go out and get a new visa.

The time it would take to leave and get the tourist visa would be at least three days anyway, plus you would waste a day at immigration. Also, it wouldnt cost you much more than to just do the visa runs, since you are not staying to far from the cambodia border....................

But yeah, like someone else said, that is not in your best "legal" interest. However, a tourist visa wouldnt make you any more legal that a free visa exempt stamp.........................
