I have to get temporary travel documents as my new UK Passport has not been sent yet

The British embassy tell me that I need an Exit and Re entry Visa even though I have a spouse visa in my existing (but now invalid) passport

Anyone know if this is really necessary and how and where I get an Exit and re-entry visa

I am in Pattaya

Thanks

There is no "exit" permit(or visa)

Where was the "spouse visa" obtained ? Was this "visa" obtained from a Thai Embassy/Consulate and is the "visa" single or multiple entry?

If you can answer the questions it will then be possible to answer the question about a re-entry permit.(It is not a visa)

When do you intend to travel ?

Spouse visa obtained from the Thai embassy in London. It is multiple entry and is unexpired. The British Embassy keep telling me I need an exit and re-entry permit but I dont see why or how? They says because the existing passport is invalid

Thanks

If your visa is still valid you don't need a re-entry permit. You will show both passports to use the visa in your old passport.

I think the embassy is confusing visas and extensions of stay, If you had an extension you would need a re-entry permit.

Yes but the point is I don't have two passports. I have the old one which expired when I applied for renewal and The Emergency Travel Document

while I am waiting for the passport renewal, that is why they say I need the exit and re-entry things

The ETD functions as a passport !
