60 days double entry visa vientiane .. only 1 time.

Recommended Posts

Hi,
I was at the Thai embassy in Laos-vientiane today to apply for a double entry 60 day tourist visa,

All according to the information from The embassy itself.. And also the Bangkok immigration site for visa.
My passport only had 1 double entry 60 days visa from before + 1 visa for Cambodja and 2 for Laos.

But when i gave the clerk the application he changed it from 2 entry to 1 .. And when i asked why he said:
We only give double entry 60 days tourist visa ones (1) .. And since you have one from before we can only give you 60 days single entry".
I refered to both the "main" immigration site in Bangkok and also the embassies own website in Laos/vientiane which said that i can get double entry 60 days visa up to 4 times .. But he replied that: At this embassy in Laos we only give 60 day double entry ones .. It was changed December 15 2015

And he show me a photo-copy ... But i said that i checked with both immigration in Bangkok and in Laos last week and got the same info as it says in written form on their own website.. i.e that i can get it multiple times .. At least up to 4 times.. But he said the photocopy is the rules.
So i asked about this new 6 month multiple entry visa that was launched only a few months ago,

And same there .. They give double/multiple entry only ones .. And since i had the old 60 day/double entry already,

I cant get the new multiple visa either.

So the conclusion:
Thai embassy in Laos / vientiane only give double/multiple visa one (1) time.. After that only single entry. (until you make a new passport so there's no old double/multiple visa in there. .. And .. You cant get the new 6 month multiple entry visa either.

Just wanna inform you all since what the written info/THE IMMIGRATION LAW says when you talk to ANY embassy in Thailand or check their websites

(even vientiane's own site) is NOT the same as when you stand at the desk at the vientiane immigration in Laos.

So if you have a double/multiple entry visa in your passport already .. You will NOT get another one.. Only single entry,
Nor the new 6 months multiple entry visa.. Unless you get a brand new Passport without any previous Visa to Thailand.

TiT

I think you don't understand the new rules that came in effect in November last year

It is no longer possible to get Double Entry's anywhere, they have been abolished, you can only get Single Entry's

METV's are available in your home country only, with a few exceptions

I really wouldn't rely on Thai Government websites for info, they rarely update them, Thai Visa is better

Double/triple entry tourist visas are no longer issued ----anywhere !

All that is available within the region is a single entry tourist visa

A six month multiple entry visa is obtainable from the Thai Embassy in your country of origin.

There is a substantial topic on this issue here http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/870548-the-multiple-entry-tourist-visa-topic-metv/

What i write is 12 hour old info from the clerk/officer at the Thai immigration in vientiane .. And we went through these issues slowly..

Both in Thai and English one by one ..
Me and 3 different immigration officers... Both together and one by one i talked to them.. Same info.

They give 60 days double entry Visa One (1) time .. And also the new multiple 6 month Visa .. One (1) time .. Thats no problem .. Period.

It was also written on that document they showed me .. But he added that these rules was only for the Thai immigration in vientiane,

He could Not give any sure info about how other immigrations do.

(btw. The document with these new rules was from December 15, 2015 .. Not november)

But if there is already an old double/multiple Visa in the Passport .. They give only single entry .. Also stated on that same document.

Ps. Since im 50 this year we also talked about retirement non O Visa.. And now they want proof of the 800 000 THB that is required already when you apply at the embassy .. While before you needed that bank statement first after 3 months when you extended the Visa to 1 year at an immigration inside Thailand .. Also on that same document from Dec 15, 2015.

Its up to each and everyone who they wanna trust .. But i had this discussions earlier today with 3 separate officers during quite long time to avoid any misunderstandings.
The info i got is the above.. Period.

  • There are no Thai Immigration Officers in Laos !
  • The issue of double/triple entry Tourist visas ceased in November of last year ------everywhere!

I suggest you spend some time reading threads/topics/comments available on Thai Visa. starting here http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/870548-the-multiple-entry-tourist-visa-topic-metv/

  • Double entry tourist visas haven't been available to anyone anywhere since last November.
  • You can only get the new METV in Laos if you are a legal resident.

I didnt find where it says "entry" first so i asked where .. And he showed me on the application where i should write that .. And i joked and asked if 3 entry was ok .. And he laughed and said: "Only 2 entry" .. It was first when he looked through my Passport and saw my old double entry that he changed to 1 .. And then the discussion started .. So according to him they give double entry Visa still .. But only ones .. And also the new multiple 6 months visa .. Everything he said proved the others .. And was also in accordance with that document where the rules is written.

I dont know if this is specific for Laos (which he also pointed out many times that these rules was ONLY for Thai immigration in vientiane.

Maybe they have change since you was there .. And maybe they'll change back.. But today the rules was exactly as i describe above.. period.

(Ps. I only write this post to inform others since theres different info on their website compare to reality .. I am done .. And have no interest in argue about this .. I know exactly what the rules are at the Thai immigration in vientiane/Laos .. Today.

I made that sure during an hour of talking and reading rules with multiple Immigration staff.

Good luck everyone!

It must be the Thai Immigration officers who dont understand the new rules then.. Since they were the ones who told and showed me everything i say here.

And again .. The rules they had was from DECEMBER 15, 2015 ... NOT November.

That is correct and they are not immigration officers but embassy staff!

"That is correct and they are not immigration officers but embassy staff!"

And since it is them, and not Immigration, that issues visas, maybe there is something here to be looked at.

What are you trying to say ?

This thread is about tourist visas and the OP's mistaken beliefs , so what needs "looking at" ?

he laughed and said: "Only 2 entry" .. It was first when he looked through my Passport and saw my old double entry that he changed to 1 ..

There was some misunderstanding or the consular officer using the wrong words for what he wanted to communicate.

He said "only 2 entry" and meant "only two single-entry visas"

Like George Bernard Shaw said: "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." This happens in communication with Thais a lot.

OP either you didn't understand the Officers or you are totally confused about visa terminology, there are no Double Entry Tourist Visas available anywhere in the world, they were stopped in November last year

There are plenty of people here telling you this and there is a multiple page thread on it elsewhere on Thai Visa

The fact that you did not receive a Double Entry TV should tell you something, there is no limit of 1, they do not issue them anymore

Wow! Some people really can't be told....

The ministry of foreign affairs in Thailand abolished double/triple entries since November 2015.

Whatever you read on the websites, or (mis)understood from talking to the embassy staff, it is wrong.

But please, feel free to get a new passport and prove us wrong coffee1.gif
