Governor admits it is difficult to stamp out fake products at Rong Klua market

BANGKOK: -- Sa Kaew governor admitted on Thursday it is difficult to stamp out fake brandname products at the Rong Klua market near the Thai-Cambodian border.

Mr Pakarathorn Thienchai said that, in the past 6-7 months, provincial officials, troops and officials from the Intellectual Properties Department and Department of Special Investigation had occasionally launched crackdowns against the fake brandname products at the market under the so-called Sa Kaew Model but with little success.

He disclosed that traders at the market had been warned about the necessity for them to change the practice and that they should concentrate on second-hand products.

He noted that it was practically difficult for the traders to change their practice and also the market is huge and many traders missed meeting with the officials and were not aware of the warning.

Despite coordination with Cambodian officials, the governor said that fake products continue to be smuggled across the border into Thailand.

Why is it difficult !! Warn them, fine them then lock them up if they don't stop including confiscating all there stuff and visibly show it been destroyed. Zero tolerance, how is that so difficult..This guy let the cat out of the bag by saying occasionally they pay a visit !!

I'm sorry it's against the law and the authorities who are in this also need to be locked up for a very long time.. Maybe Mr big is way higher up the gravy train and can't be touched ! This is a national problem and until it's dealt with the story will remain the same!

It cant be stopped because there is too much money involved.

Its all about money.beatdeadhorse.gif

" So many traders missed meeting with the officials and were not aware of the warning."cheesy.gif Surreal!

In another story, the government managed to nail 12,000 people for selling alcohol and tobacco without paying the taxes. Priorities, you know.

Yeah, sometimes life is difficult, especially when told to do the job your paid to do?

Not difficult at ll if you really want to do it.

Close the market...

Sa Kaew governor admitted on Thursday it is difficult to stamp out fake brand name products

Especially, when the Governor and his minions are making a hansom profit from it!!wai.gif

"missed the meeting and were not aware of the warning" how 'Thai' is that? "sorry I missed the meeting about stealing so you cannot blame me"

Said it already. Close that border point.

Enforcement is joke many times. For example, in the large town of Nakhon Pathom about 35km due west of Bangkok it's against the law to sell products/fruits/vegatables/etc., on certain sidewalks. Several times a day they have one policeman walk slowing along the sidewalks trying to catch offenders. When the policeman is coming the word is passed from vendor to vendor just like in the jungle of a predator in the area and everyone moves their products off the sidewalk or covers it as if no selling is going. As the policeman walks past approx 10 meters they put their product back out for sale. And although the policemen could easily turn around to look or turn around and walk back 10 meters to catch offenders he does not. I watched this game several times over the years as I visit Nahhon Pathom a lot since I have in-laws living there.

It's just a game...the police can say they are trying to enforce the law, but it's all a facade.

Ignorance is no defence in law, but inability to do your job seems a fair excuse.

I was there last week and saw one guy unwashed for days and had the ar-e hanging out of his old jeans refusing to buy a fake Lolex. When the vendor asked him why he said it was essential that he bought a real Lolex because that's what he really wanted. Many people are forced into buying these fakes instead of the real ones at 300,000 baht because the genuine ones are in such short supply.

Instead of trying to get rid of the fakes the manufacturers should increase production so the shoppers can find the real items that they really all want.

Not biting !!

"it was practically difficult for the traders to change their practice"

Isn't it the point of LAW ENFORCEMENT - change criminal behavior? wai2.gif

yeah, being in charge and enforcing the law is a difficult job.

don't like the heat? get out of the kitchen.

and maybe just have a few cops everyday patrol the shops, you know police doing their jobs.

I've seen the same at Bang Mo market outside the old siam.

I was looking at the DVD's who were for sale at all the streetstands while suddenly ALL vendors threw black tarps over their ware to cover it. The Police was seen at the entrance of the street.

5 minutes later the tarps were removed and business went on as usual.

Same at Phantip at the DVD-floor...they even grabbed the showbook with dvd's out of my hand to put it in a drawer while 10 minutes later business was continued.

vely funny! wai2.gifwai.gifwai2.gif

I have seen them arresting a vendor once though, he sold soccershirts.

You can see the same show at Swampy airport. There's a police-pickup with a very loud horn chasing away taxi's trying to get customers. Right behind that pickup the new taxi's are following it to park there again to get new customers.....they just drive behind that truck which drives circles and comes back every 30 minutes.

Also it's funny when that pickup orders a taxi to leave now....they pull up very very slow and then even stop a few more times but finally go...

You can get a few T shirts, shorts, cooking pots, woks, umbrellas, foodstuffs, sunglasses blah blah blah etc. It looks like the place where a lot of bulk is bought, brought to BKK or other places marked up and sold in the local market. Not worth the drive just to buy a couple of T shirts.

Generally very hot busy and smelly if you like that kind of thing.

Couple of restaurants that sell sort of western food opened when it was busy with the in/out runners but that has died a death so they are quiet from what I see, I use the border maybe twice a year for 90 day in out.

Forget to add, on the Cambodia side you have a few Casinos but I've never been inside any of them so can't comment if good or bad.

You expect a street vendor to sell a real Rolex? People are forced into buying the fakes? blink.pngblink.png

People who can afford an original Rolex know where to buy them.wink.png

If other countries ask Thailand to do this to raise there stands with the rest of the word. Reply to difficult to stamp out fake goods. If you want to show the world that you care about fake goods. Send more man power and a few Thai policemen to do the job like you really mean to do it right. More tea money but PM blind!

Said it already. Close that border point.

Could enforce customs at the border, confiscate fake goods.

You're the first one to bite.

The west is well known for saying let the market decide.

Well the market has decided. It does not want restrictions on "copied" goods.
