bendejo
it's good that this was caught sooner than later http://gizmodo.com/cheap-usb-c-cables-could-kill-your-phone-or-laptop-1757115350
keeniau96
This is a good warning. I have a OnePlus 2 that requires the USB-C connection and the official company cable is a flat one that works fine (the common USB-A one end with USB-C other, connecting to my phone). I also got a spare aftermarket cable with a unique connection wire (not braided cover) and that one works OK. Have not seen any USB-C cables here in Phuket but will keep an eye out for the braided versions.
bendejo
Looks like this is being taken seriously. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3048425/hardware/amazon-bans-shoddy-dangerous-usb-c-cables.html This article contains some good links, like a FAQ with the technical details. Langsuan Man
Amazon is taking it seriously also: Amazon bans the sale of dodgy USB Type-C connectors and adapters http://9to5google.com/2016/03/30/amazon-usb-type-c-ban/
Pib
Hurt my head trying to understand the problem....that is, is the problem within the USB C cable or within the charger and/or device. Turns out it could be either...depends on how the cable "and" charger/device are designed....could be the cable or the charger/device causing the problem. Guess that means being durn sure you buy the right USB C cable for any device that uses such a USB C cable---of course figuring out how to do that can be a problem in itself.
