Fire at a landfill in Ayutthaya's Nakhon Luang district

BANGKOK: -- At least five fire trucks and five backhoes have been dispatched to a landfill in Nakhon Luang district of Ayutthaya after a fire broke out at the site.

Police said that strong cold winds had posed an obstacle to firemen’s attempt to put off the fire at the 70-rai landfill. Smokes from the fire have spread out as far as five kilometers away to Tambons Bangrakam and Klong Sakae and some tombons of Bang Pahan district.

The landfill is the dump site of garbages from Nakhon Luang tambon municipal, Mae La tambon administration organization, Bang Pahan tambon municipal and Ayothaya Muang municipal.

Officials said that fire at the landfill is a normal annual occurance. But this time around arson was suspected.

Face masks and relief materials have been sent to residents in areas affected by smoke from the fire.
