Has Soi Cowboy Gone Downhill?

sat with a Mamasan outside of her bar a few weeks ago, you see them pour into cowboy, take the obligatory "selfie" walk to the end of the soi and 5 minutes later we see them walk out again. cowboy only busy on a friday/saturday night.same in soi 4.lots of girls and no customers, and yes i do think they are more agressive, as they are all fighting for that 50/70 baht lady drink ticket.

I've never been to any of those places nor do i ever want to,

but reading these posts makes it an interesting night out,

but (as a non drinker) for me a sip of champagne at a wedding

makes my head spin and gives me a headache so i'm trying

to imagine the bar girls who i perceived came from poor

rural villages from Issan, they don't come from a drinking

environment, now thrust into the heavy duty bar scene,,,

Quoting,,,thrilled

they all want you to buy them multiple drinks

I wonder if these young girls end up full on alcoholics and what

happens to their health in the years to come, who will pay the

medical bills,, and guys want to marry them,,, very sad indeed.

Most don't even drink the drink you bought them, its usually a coke, but no alcohol, or even cold tea, that looks like a 'real' drink, but you are charged for an expensive drink.....

Who cares? You're paying for their time, what difference does it make? I'd rather see a girl drinking shots of water than 10 shots of tequila 26 days/month, wouldn't you?

Oh yeah, yes people trying to make a living to support their families.

It is interesting to see the girls arrive between 7 to 9pm.

Dropped off by their Thai boyfriends on their motorbikes.

A kiss and off they go.

Gee, I wonder where all the money goes? :)

You expect bargirls, gogo dancers and service girls to be single?? Strange to find boyfriends dropping off their girlfriends at work "interesting"!

Yeah agreed, Soi Cowboy gets a decisive thumbs down now from me as of last holdiay season, I need to not go there anymore after years of rationalizing that the place wasn't that bad. It even smells horrific down there, like dried squid and rancid grease or something. . .

{Big snip} blah blah.

So as you lose your charms so cowboy loses hers. What did you expect?

Besides cowboy always stank.

And I love the part about the Muslims pretending to be terrorists, I'm sure your own bias isn't coloring the story there at all.

Oh for the golden days. Shame you have had to limit it to a mere 10 -15 times a year.

Talk to mamasan. Give her 200bht and say you dont want to be bothered by any girl.

Seriously....you're that weak minded you have to pay to be left alone...that's hilarious

Weak minded, simply sounds efficient to me.

Aren't bargirls paid to leave in the morning?

Yeah baby. I guess it is ok for your gf to work in a job where she has sex with many guys for money? Then, you pick her up from work later no problems. You want their money so much also? Good for you for your open thinking but not the gf I desire.

But, maybe normal I assume from where you come from.

Sounds like you may have low self esteem.

The lasses in Soi cowboy went fro a sweet, innocent farm girls to a hard core ho's...

unlike 20-30 years ago where you could have a fun filled night for well under a 1,000

baht, with genuine friendly cute and young girls.... not so much now, where show me the

money and let's get ti over with quickly now....

Yeah, how DARE they try to maximize their income

None of us have ever done that, have we?rolleyes.gif

These women are there to make money, not to provide foreign losers with a "girlfriend experience".

You CAN still get that, of course, but the cost of renting escorts and higher-end freelancers has the typical sex tourist/sexpat.sex retiree in convulsions LOL

Sorry lads but the internet is killing off the bar scene.

You've gotta compete with younger guys who don't ar5e about haggling - they just book the bird up for the days or weeks they're here, pay her asking price and get on with it.

It's a new world

Surprised no one's mentioned it already here...

In the news this week, the Dollhouse bar on SC had closed and the American guy who supposedly co-founded it died after he fell (or jumped) from the high floor of his BKK condo. That after his entire staff and girls supposedly had quit.

Last Sunday, Stickman had a column that included some discussion of the problems at Dollhouse, which was posted before the guy's death. And that column mentioned, separately, that the Arab had closed another of his bars on SC lately, namely Rio.

And separate from that, as for the atmosphere on SC, Stickman related a different story about a guy walking down SC who literally got grabbed by "greeting girls" at bars on opposite sides of the street, so the guy was in the middle and had a girl pulling on one arm to go one way and a girl on the opposite arm pulling to try to get him to go the other way. So much for a relaxed, fun atmosphere.

But, having said all that, surely the OP must be mistaken. The tourism numbers are booming, the government says, and 99% of Thais are happy. (Cough, cough....) whistling.gif Amazing Thailand!

http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/StickmanWeeklyColumn2015/Stickman-Bangkok-2016.htm

Dollhouse's problems could affect Soi Cowboy which - let's be frank - only has a small number of genuinely good gogo bars. Pretty neon on the outside doesn't mean a great bar on the inside. With Dollhouse closed for the time being, that's one fewer decent bar. You'd think that with Dollhouse closed other bars in Cowboy would benefit but that's logical thinking - something best avoided in Thailand. Fewer decent bars in Cowboy is just as likely to cause folks to go elsewhere i.e. Nana where there are more good bars to choose.

The aggressive hello girls outside bars in Soi Cowboy will do what they can to get punters inside. One guy was a human rope in a tug of war between bars on opposite sides of the soi this week as girls from one side pulled on one arm trying to get him in their bar while girls from the bar opposite pulled on his other arm. Fun if you're in the mood, annoying if you're not.

"so the guy was in the middle and had a girl pulling on one arm to go one way and a girl on the opposite arm pulling to try to get him to go the other way. So much for a relaxed, fun atmosphere".

I would think that things like that would lead to a fun atmosphere, I bet the guy was enjoying it.

Soi Cowboy is still on a level plane. I couldn't make it last night so I'll probably be there tonight. Don't know whether this will be a drinking night or a bar fine night, I suppose it depends on the line-ups.

A bottle of water cost B180 at so I cb. That was 2 years ago.

In most of the bars all drinks are the same price, so a mixed vodka or a beer is the same price. Walk outside, buy your bottle of water at a 7/11 for 10 baht, finish it, then go back into the bar. It's not hard. The bars don't want to sell cheap water because they don't want customers sitting there drinking 30 baht water bottles all night taking up room for customer than want to buy drinks. Anyway theres still happy hours and bars where drinks are 150.

So the new owners changed the rules....discussions about hiring hooks and their behaviour is now allowed....maybe things looking up

Yeah cos there just aren't enough forums and sites online where whoremongers can discuss prostitution, are there?

For someone who seems to be against the bar-fine system, you love putting in your 2 cents worth. Are you getting paid to be obnoxious....conspiriousy theory.

So I have to be in favour of prostitution in order to state my opinion. Is that the point you're trying to make??

Not so much a point as it is an observation. Sort of like...Myself, I'm not a fan of soccer so I wouldn't think of commenting on the subject of soccer.

But you, not being a fan of prositution surely love talking about it.

OK so you're not a fan of soccer but I doubt anyone would berate you for passing comment on some aspect of it - the money players earn or the fact it's become an industry etc

Similarly, while I'm not a fan of prostitution, it doesn't mean that I can't comment on it

If this forum did descend into a hub for whoremongers to discuss its details, I most certainly wouldn't describe such a development as "things looking up"
