BANGKOK: -- A 17-year-old Chonburi teenager was seriously injured after he fell from the rooftop of a shopping mall last night after he snuck up there with three friends to take selfies.

Surawit Aum-aumpan reportedly climbed up to the roof of the six-storey-high Pacific Park Sriracha hoping to get shots of him and his friends, but as he stepped on the thin tiling it gave way and he fell 15 meters onto the fourth floor.

"He was trying to get a photo of us. So he stepped onto the roof because he thought he could," one of his friends, identified only as “Kwang” said. "We saw the forbidden sign, but we thought it wouldn’t be dangerous."

There was a similar story not long ago -- is this a new hazzard? Warning stickers on cameras?

"We saw the forbidden sign, but we thought it wouldn’t be dangerous."

Ah, the wisdom of youth.

Smart phone + dumb owner = disaster.

A result of the 'No-Fail' policy. You would encounter the same attitude in the adults...

Shouldn't laugh, but I did.

Step it up a bit and you're a good candidate for a Darwin award.

Similar thing happened to a friend of mine as we messed around on a Tesco roof aged around 14 (fortunately no selfies in the 80's). He stupidly stepped onto a skylight and fell through it. Luckily he was able to grab the ledge as he fell through and was left hanging there petrified so we pulled him up to safety. It was around a 20 metre drop onto the concrete warehouse floor had he been unable to cling on by his fingernails.

Hope this kid is OK. A stupid thing to do but who hasn't done stupid stuff in their teens?

Didn,t Darwin have a suggestion on these sort of antics :)

...he found a weak point in the roof for them....

Ah, the wisdom of youth.

I remember when I was young and far more stupid than this guy.... whistling.gif

say Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....splat

say Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....splat

And I bet the last breath would be used to share the photo with the fast approaching concrete floor in facebook. It looks like the only thing stronger than face is the urge to take selfies. Must be the DNA.

Taking selfies? Not attempting to break in then?coffee1.gif

On these roofs you have to step in line with the screws if you dont your screwed !!!

R.I.P.

Face book will be so proud of her

Smart phone + dumb owner = disaster.

Ignorance is a force multiplier.

Send the group the bill for the repairs to the roof. Dummies.

Shouldn't laugh, but I did.

Yep ,me too. " Flash bang wallop , what a photograph , poor old soul , blimey what a joke ..........................."

crap he's still alive to drive his motorbike high on yabba....

Sincerely hope he'll be ok.

We all do daft things from time to time. It's a part of growing up.

More antics of that brain dead group of narcissists known as millennials. Tweet that.

Whoops!

'“Kwang” said. "We saw the forbidden sign, but we thought it wouldn’t be dangerous."' The operative word should be thought. But it rarely is.

Asbestos roof sheets,

"Use of the selfie feature may be hazardous to your health."

If he'd just have had the video and sound recording at the time he might be viral by now.

BTW - don't these digital kids in the land of pirated software know about Photoshop?

Well there were already warnings on the roof and that is as much as can be expected.

One has to protect fools against themselves where possible, so I suppose the access could be secured.

At first I thought he may have been misled by the 'back a bit' instruction or was leaning back holding his own phone-camera. All for a good shot on a media platform!

Part of being a stupid person is assuming everyone else is equally stupid. Ego-centrism justifies so much...

Stupidity has been a 'right' of the young long before the advent of 'selfies'.

Sometimes it's easy to forget some of the stupid antics even the brightest among us got up to back in our youth....even without the benefit of a smartphone!
