Visa run after tourist visa expired?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just wanted to ask a question if I may regarding a visa run (I've done my own research on the net but just wanted clarification if possible)....

My situation is this. I have a single entry tourist visa which after 60 days I extended for a further 30 days at the local immigration ( hua hin). Would I be able to do a border run after that 30 days has expired? I have read that "out/in" border runs are now not allowed.....

(From what I've read it sounds like this is not allowed any more).

Thanks for any information/advice,

Many regards!

  • Yes you could do a border run but not all borders will allow out/in without a visa.

At the borders that do allow out/in you will get 15 or 30 days depending on your nationality. G7 countries get 30 days.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm from the uk so I'm guessing that would mean I could get 30 days

Cheers

Ps. Can anyone please recommend the best option from Hua Hin? I have rented a car before and done the Kanchanaburi run before (but I read that they no longer allow "out/in" visa runs due to a new guy in charge!?).......I've also done the Ranong one but don't fancy the drive unless absolutely last resort?.......

Thanks again for any advice/ info!

The Kanchanaburi crossing does not allow out/in crossings for a visa exempt entry. You have to have a valid visa for re-entry.

Ranong is probably your only choice unless you want to drive to the Cambodia border.

Yes and that can also be extended by 30 days if needed.

Kanchanaburi is for sure no, Ranong not sure if they do OUT/IN nowadays.

Cambodian border are sure, they give OUT/IN within same day, 30days visa exempt for UK passport,

this is further extendable by 30days at Thai Immigration.

Thanks for the replies. What would happen if they refuse to give me a visa exempt stamp to re enter?

Do they let you know before you exit Thailand as to whether or not you will be able to re enter?

Thanks again!

They will not allow you to leave the country unless you can re-enter the country. They will look to see if you have a visa.

  • You would have to re-enter the country you came from, and if they won't have you either you'll have to live in no mans land. biggrin.png
  • Yes the borders that don't allow out/in visa exempt entries won't let you exit Thailand.
