My partner who is South African applied for his new passport last December 2015 due to the current passport being full (only a page left and some spaces for border stamps). This passport is expiring on 2023. He has to wait according to his embassy for 4-6 months before he can get a new passport. We were aware of that because he tried applying before for a new passport mid-year 2015 but his embassy refused telling him he should get a work permit in order to apply for a new passport (which doesn't make sense to me and he doesn't have any at that time). He did a visa run to Kota Bharu November 2015 therefore using the one last page for his single entry non-b visa. Processed his work permit and went straight to his embassy to apply for a new passport. Only for the people there to tell him a work permit is not necessary. Now he doesn't have any page left. His visa is expiring on the 12th of February. His embassy however, gave him a letter to show to the immigration that he is waiting for his new passport. What to do? Our options are - for him to go back to SA and get his passport asap which is very costly; or taking the risk of crossing the border to apply for his multiple non-b visa extension for 1 year with his full passport.

Is his employer able to supply the paper work needed to get a on year extension of stay based upon working. That would require less than half a page.

Without a full page for a visa sticker he will not be able to get another visa.

Yes the employer has every document sorted out. But they say he'll need another visa sticker for the multiple entry non-b visa.

It appears the company is not able to or willing to provide the required documents to apply for a one year extension of stay at an immigration office. He does not need a multiple entry visa to apply for it.
