PM calls for more efficient tackling of IP infringement



Bangkok, 11 February 2016 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has asserted that the issue of intellectual property infringement must be dealt with efficiently to ensure confidence in the nation.

Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, chairing the first meeting of the National Intellectual Property Commission for 2016, acknowledged that the issue of intellectual property infringement has long been a problem for Thailand.

He pointed out that the country has been unable to effectively tackle the matter due to a lack of personnel and poor integration between relevant agencies as well as a lack of knowledge among authorities.

He stated that he has discussed the issue with his ministers and relevant bodies and tasked with them drafting a clear plan so for more efficient action. Gen Prayuth said addressing intellectual property is important to ensuring international confidence in Thailand.

On the matter of personnel shortages across all state offices, the premier called for each body to adjust its structure as the government does not have the budget to acquire the needed amount of workers.

He said if requests continue, he will have the Office of the Civil Service Commission restructure each ministry and the entire civil sector.

Seems more like "lack of personnel willing to get off backsides" and "willing to do job without bribes". Here left hand rarely knows what right is doing. "Lack of knowledge": how about hiring personnel based on merit instead of connections?

Will the military and the toys for boys adjust to? No subs, no one gateway, guns for cops, more military personnel no bullet train to nowhere. Unquote Yes a definite lack of police and knowledge among authorities. I am tired of watching ranking officers in the military and police being followed by 2 or 3 flunkies that could be put to good use patrolling and keeping up a visual presence instead of falling all over each other to curry favor. Come on PM the days of personal servants/slaves is over done gone get into the 21st century if you want international recognition. All the modern media/social media sir is exposing you to the international stage. Well the lack of knowledge has and always will be a problem here check out the Bridge fiasco. Even when your in over your head they do not have the wisdom to say sorry and shake hands and back off no you must press on for the ridiculous conclusion that was self evident and came about. Decorum is a dead word here. Pomp and finery rule the day.

Thailand's problem with IP are twofold:

1. No respect for other people's intellectual property.

2. Corrupt law enforcement.

It is still considered a manly thing to use pirated stuff like computer software even in the government agencies and schools. Even expats think like this.

The police walk by the street vendors with counterfeit merchandise and even the ICT Minister declared after a visit at Pantip Plaza that no pirated software is being sold there.

Maybe getting the existing civil servants working properly is the answer. Pay them well. Automate government systems and audit corruption... nah who am I kidding. It's joke Friday ????

Pay them well.

Prayut gave them across the board 5% pay raises 2014, 2015 and 2016. Meanwhile, active duty military serving in the government and NCPO get military pay and pay for their government position.

Government should only think about how fast it can give back the country to the people.

.And then we will no doubt see another group of ''politicians'' come along and buy their way into government and its associated pork barrels,followed by yet more civil disorder.

To date whether we like it or not Thailand has in the main been peaceful,

Send plod to their local market, every conceivable IP infringement openly displayed.

Oh. I forgot. They'd have to arrest themselves..and that's impossible.

The whole Civil Service needs ripping down and rebuilding properly. There are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of so called 'Government Officials'....fancy name for Civil Servants....sitting around all day doing sweet FA other than playing with their phones or computers. I've seen it all at close quarters and the waste of working hours is alarming to say the least. The 'Management' of huge numbers of public buildings are rarely in their office's as they are running other business's on the side or out playing Golf with others doing the same thing. There is zero accountability to staff who dare not say a word but take on the idle ways of the boss's. When genuine requests or enquiries come in from the public the staff do not want to be bothered to help and quickly dismiss the matter through pure ignorance of rules and regulations or idleness. Staff training is almost not existent and large numbers of staff are there because some Auntie or Uncles Wife got them the job.

Still; the big pumpkin said 2016 is the year of reform, so we can expect it all sorted by year end......Lol.

There's a week long anniversary celebration at my institution next week. 100 civil servants and ancillary staff have another week of doing fa. Same as every other week. 'Sign in' before 8.30. At 8.31 the day's work is done.

Long may it continue.

Does theft of intellectual property include the junta's version of democracy?

Like the so called crackdown on corruption, nothing will be done.

And places like Pantip Plaza always receive a warning when a raid is going to happen.

He better get back to square one: trying to prevent Thais from smoking. It simply seems more promising.
