SAMUT PRAKAN, 12 February 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with the Command Center for Combating Illegal Fishing (CCCIF) are accelerating their efforts to create understanding among foreign media regarding the government efforts to tackle illegal fishing activities.

Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s information department Sek Wannamethee revealed the results of an unofficial discussion with international news agencies in Thailand along with related agencies regarding the European Union’s disapproval of illegal fishing activities in Thailand, saying that the CCCIF will, from now on, be the media’s primary source of official information from the government.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Navy Vice Adm Jumpol Lumpiganon added that the meeting discussed ways for the CCCIF to best serve as the liaison between the government and foreign media and will provide accurate information to Thai media outlets.

Meanwhile in Samut Prakan Province, Governor Siam Sirimongkol along with the subcommittee from the Operations Center Against Trafficking in Samut Prakan Province conducted an inspection of vessels in the province and reminded owners of fishing vessels to register their fishing boats.

Maybe try enforcing the laws against illegal fishing would be a good place to start.

You're discussing how to best inform the foreign press about your efforts in tackling IUU?

I am not really sure what there is to discuss, because it's actually really simple, dear FM guys: You just tell them the truth.

But perhaps that is the problem that needs lengthy discussion.

Just because you're saying Thailand's anti-IUU efforts are bearing fruit and the issue is as good as solved doesn't necessarily mean the foreign press will also believe you every word. They know Thai officials and their penchant for smoke screens and embellished exaggerations so the country's image can be protected at all cost.

So they changed the policy from mislead to inform?

Note in a small bottle cast into the sea, say red bull size, should do the trick

*Until the offenders (including owneers, captians, etc ) of fishing rules and laws are slapped hard with loss of craft fines in the millions of baht, loss of liscense, etc the illegal catches will continue.

Trace the processing plant to ownership and include them in the slapdown and you will be on the road to see a change in attitude toward natural resource and conservation of same.

....not a good precedent....

Here's a novel idea for Thailand. Perhaps the best way to inform the media is.....Tell The Truth.

Tell the TRUTH, the WHOLE TRUTH and nothing but the TRUTH, and you will have made a good start. Other than that keep your traps shut !

Lol reminded owners. Personally, I forget about laws all the time. Can someone remind me pleeeease!

Why? If the media doesn't understand, just sue them. That's been the M O so far...

yeah, that's a real good question.....

Shall we tell the truth or tell them B.S........cheesy.gif

Why change a winning formula - just continue to lie through your teeth, and throw a tantrum if people don't believe you.

Litany of excuses not needed. Foreign media are not the Thai lapdog media. Foreign media laugh at defamation and actually investigate.

Right, lie to the foreign media. And if they do not believe, well there is a defamation case.
