Best way to get to Savannakhet and applying for non o visa

Featured Replies

Hi Guys can someone tell me the best way to reach savannakhet is it best to fly? and also im applying to get a non o visa as I'm a Daddy to a thai child I have all the relevant paperwork required could someone tell me about the procedure at the border and costs of travel approx. I Was going to go with a arranged visa run bus to vietannne but have found out the consulate is shut Monday the 21st feb thankyou

I can't help you with the travel side, but it's easy going once you get to the border. You can pay 100 baht for a bus that will take you over the bridge, wait at Laos passport control, and then take you to the main Bus Station in Savannakhet. The bus station is not far from the Consulate (walkable) but there are plenty of Tuk Tuks around. There are also a few hotels close to the bus station.

  • Single entry 2,000 baht.
  • Multiple entry 5,000 baht.

You really need to state where you are leaving from in order to get to Savvakanet .

How can people give your directions if they dont know where you are leaving from ?

Have a look here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/846120-whats-the-best-way-to-get-to-mukdahan-from-bangkok-for-savannakhetlaos-visa-run/

plenty of long running threads about non imm multi'o' in Savannakhet. just do a search, flying, buses are all discussed fully on these threads.

one small one here - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/894855-visarun-savannakhet/

another - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/864480-non-o-me-marriage-in-savannakhet-required-docs-oct-2015/page-2

another on vientiane - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/716054-visa-report-non-immigrant-o-family-vientiane/

and a 'savannakhet' forum search here - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1

there i have done the work for you.

Easiest least hassle way

Rent a car or motorbike and drive/ride it straight to just before the border and park it

Walk to where you get the bus ticket but dont get a bus ticket, there should be a taxi/hire driver around, he will drive you over the bridge, wait for you at Laos immigration then drive you straight to the thai consulate for ~250baht

The consulate in Savannakhet will be closed on Monday the 22nd the same as Vientiane.

If you are looking at the Savannakhet websites calendar it is wrong and shows holidays for 2015 and a calendar for 2016 without any holidays highlighted.

You have a few ways to do it, but the short answer is that you can get either visa from AUS before you come or get them from embassies/consulates in Laos.

I can better help you if you tell me whether you are moving here permanently or how often you will be visiting.

You can either use fly and ride (fly to for example Ubon and then they have van to Mukdahan) or by bus.

I like to use the overnight bus as it's a lot cheaper (especially for me that not live in BKK). Last time i checked I would have to pay over 10,000 with fly and ride (round trip) and then I would need to spend 3 nights in hotel, going by bus I pay less than 1,500 and only 1 night in hotel.

In the end it's up to your wallet and what you think it's worth spending money on; I save enough money to buy over 200 bottles of beer going by bus instead of flying... I don't drink anymore but it's a way to compare that many here can understand. burp.gif
