BANGKOK: -- The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) of Taiwan issues its second-highest travel advisory (in a three-tier system) for Thailand on Sunday, after the World Health Organization listed the South East Asian nation as one of the countries that has reported cases of the Zika virus.

The CDC also called for pregnant women to hold off on travelling to Thailand, and said tourists travelling there should take precautions to avoid being bitted by mosquitoes.

The three-tier system used by the CDC comprises: watch, alert, and warning.

Since the mosquito-borne disease appeared in Brazil in 2015, it has also spread to several other countries around the world, mainly in Central and South America as well as the Caribbean.

Taiwan is a very smart nation to advise against coming to Thailand. Not only because of the Zika virus but because of the poor safety standards in Thailand. More accidental deaths than any where else in the world. No true safety standards!
