CDC to publish article on misconceptions about draft charter

BANGKOK, 16 February 2016 (NNT) - The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) will publicize an article on misconceptions regarding the draft charter.

CDC Spokesperson Udom Rathamarit said the move was prompted by the circulation of misleading information. Rumors have claimed the draft charter restricts public rights and prevents people from proposing new laws.

Mr. Udom said the CDC places great emphasis on public rights in Section 25 and 26 of the draft charter. There are also other relevant sections that guarantee individual rights and freedoms. He said that these components, which were included in the 2000 Constitution, still remain intact.

The roles of the independent organizations will adhere to the stipulations set forth in the 1997 Constitution. The article by the CDC will be published on www.parliament.go.th.

The CDC will continue to field public opinions to improve upon the draft charter, especially with regards to freedom, politics, the electoral system, as well as the composition of the Senate and Members of the Parliament.

So if these are "misconceptions" why are they so terrified of any open public discussion that might address these?

I don't think it's the CDC who have an issue with public forums discussing the draft.

The military on the other hand...

"There are also other relevant sections that guarantee individual rights and freedoms."

People might feel more secure about their rights and freedoms if they had the right to freely discuss and criticize the draft.

Like the blind men all touching different parts of the Elephant.

No English language translation yet.

The only misconception is that the charter wasn't drafted under an elected government , that in itself is a good enough reason to doubt the intentions of an Administration who has shown totalitarian tendencies and even down to muzzling the press through censorship , I refer to the media blackout on the computer hackers anonymous attack on the police computer systems that the outside world knew about, but little said in Thailand, so in saying that, this junta hasn't been entirely honest with its people, why would it be honest in drafting a constitution charter. ........................................coffee1.gif

so far all I have seen are people sitting with banners saying "no vote" - that is all well and good if they actually took the time to explain why - if they don't then what is the point

Because they'll be shoved in the pokey mate. Quicktime, and you know it.

It's going to be a hell of an article, I am most interested in the referenced 2000 constitution, as that is the first time I heard of it. Can't even get the year right :)

You think there's a separation between those two entities?

Actually they have, if you'd spent a moment or two looking at the media there are a ton of voices explaining in some lucid detail why they are concerned. That you clearly haven't bothered is not their fault.

There are also offshore Thai commentators making pretty strong cases against what they are reading in the proposed charter. Educated, seemingly unbiased folks who have real concerns.
