PHUKET: -- Mystery still surrounds the disappearance of three-year-old Nong DJ, who went missing while playing outside his home in Wichit.

He was found six days later, scared, weak and alone in a forest about three kilometers from the spot he had last been seen (Video report here).

Nong DJ is still recovering in hospital from his ordeal but there have been few clues as to his mysterious disappearance. Doctors have declined to comment on the boy's condition and police say they are still investigating.

“We have yet to find out how he went missing,” Wichit Police Superintendent Kittipong Klaikaew told the Phuket Gazette.

“Up to this point, we have not been able to gain much insight, but we will continue to investigate.”

Something very wrong here. Unlikely anyone will ever find out. Little lad is very lucky to be alive. Mother should be thankful ...

Yes, something not right.

There would be no need to continue to investigate, once a missing person has been found, which leads me to think there's more to this story.

The fact police are still investigating may mean they are looking into a family member for neglect, although this is rare in Thailand, or someone else for an abduction.

The doctor not commenting on the child's condition may be due to privacy concerns, which would tend to show he may have experienced more than just exposure to the elements, during the time he was missing.

Whether or not foul play was involved, the child is lucky to be alive, but maybe not so lucky to be reunited with his family, depending where this investigation ends up.

Wasn't his mother searching for him with a picture poster of her son?

So probably not the mother involved.

And what's wrong with the mother having a poster to help promote a public search ...

Why you say "probably not the mother involved" ??

He was just responding to a ludicrous post from NKM, who accused the family of involvement in his disappearance.

The family should be investigated for neglect, so that "involves" them.

Why is the possibility a family member was involved, other than for neglect, "ludicrous?"

In the majority of murder cases, all around the world, the murderer was known to the victim. Not that I am suggesting this is a case of attempted murder.

What about the child's uncle, the neighbor, the babysitter? The police are still investigating, despite the child being found.

Who are they investigating, or who are they looking for?

Police hope CCTV expert help sheds light on Nong DJ disappearance

PHUKET: -- Police are hoping that experts reviewing CCTV footage will provide some clues on how 3-year-old Jessadakorn “Nong DJ” Chaiyo became lost in hillside jungle earlier this month, The Phuket News has been told.

Nong DJ was found weak, but alive and whole, on February 9 about three kilometres from his family home after apparently surviving six days in the wild.

Door-to-door questioning of local residents has not shed any light on how Nong DJ strayed so far from home unnoticed, Wichit Police Chief Col Kittipong Klaikaew told The Phuket News yesterday (Feb 17).

“We have questioned many people in the area about Nong DJ missing and so far no one seems to have seen anything,” he said, noting that Nong DJ’s home is located to the west of Chao Fa West Rd, not on Kwang Rd as previously reported.

“It is unfortunate that there is no CCTV around Nong DJ’s home. The nearest CCTV camera is on a street about 200 metres away, but the footage is poor quality, Col Kittipong told The Phuket News.

“I have asked some experts to help us. They might be able to improve the quality of the footage so we can see better, and hopefully be able to tell how Nong DJ ended up in the forest.

The police are trying to find out the circumstances of his disappearance, there is every reason to continue the investigation until that is known.

There is no suggestion whatsoever, from any source, that the family is being investigated and for you to start that kind of unfounded rumour here and to suggest that he is not so lucky to be back with his family is disgraceful.

The lack of comment on the boy's condition to the general public does not "tend to show" anything apart from respect of the family's privacy.

"The police are trying to find out the circumstances of his disappearance" - correct. He was either unsupervised and wandered off, which leaves the family under investigation for neglect, or he was abducted, leaving the police looking for a suspect.

Or, do you have a third hypothesis for the child's disappearance?

"There is no suggestion whatsoever, from any source, that the family is being investigated" - wrong. The investigation SHOULD look at ALL possible scenarios, including the possible neglect and/or criminal behavior of family members.

"and for you to start that kind of unfounded rumour here" - I'm not starting any rumor. i am saying the police investigation SHOULD look at all possibilities, including family members.

"and to suggest that he is not so lucky to be back with his family is disgraceful." - and if it's reported tomorrow that the father, cousin or uncle has been charged with sexual assault on the child, what would you say then? It does happen, and happens quite a lot in issan, where a family member sexually assaults a young relative, usually female.

"The lack of comment on the boy's condition to the general public does not "tend to show" anything apart from respect of the family's privacy." - possibly, but the doctor's silence may also be to maintain the integrity of the police investigation.

I see your post as quite contradictory. On one hand, you say there is an ongoing police investigation to find out where, when, how and who is involved in the child's disappearance, and on the other hand, your stance is, but in no way can it be a family member. Why not, it usually is.

Perhaps you can tell me what, or who, you think the police are investigating then.

The fact that the police investigation is still ongoing, despite the child being found, leads me to believe there is more to this story.

I think we all can agree there is much more to this police investigation ....

It would appear so. and such investigation should not exclude the family members from suspicion.
