A further case of suspected drugging and robbery of Indian Tourists now from a small Hotel in Naklua. Police Lieutenant Aniwat from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Moonlight Motel on the Sukumvit Road in Naklua in the early hours of Saturday morning after hotel staff had discovered two Indian Nationals unconscious in room number A3.

Inside the room were condoms, cans of beer and tablets which were thought to have contributed towards the men’s state of unconsciousness. Inside the room were no items of value suggesting that they had been stolen by whoever had been in the room with them. Both men were taken to Hospital and later woke up from their deep sleep caused by an unknown quantity of a purple oval shaped tablet.

Staff at the Hotel mentioned that the two men had entered the room with a woman and a further woman later arrived in a Toyota Vios Saloon Car driven by a Third Woman who remained in the car. One hour later the two women in the room, left in the car.

A full description of the car and its license plate were given to Police who managed to track the car down. It was parked near the Marine Disco 2 in South Pattaya, just behind Walking Street which is a popular venue for tourists from India and other Asian and Middle-East countries. Police waited near the car and eventually the three suspects returned to the car and were arrested. They were found to be carrying 150 tablets, though to be the same ones used in the robbery in Naklua.

They were taken to Pattaya Police Station and were charged over the incident. Khun Maree aged 27, Khun Surrerut aged 25 and Khun Pisamai aged 29 denied the allegations despite the discovery of the tablets and the fact that the car could be placed at the scene and the three were positively identified by Hotel Staff.

The Police are now waiting for the two Indian men to recover before they proceed with the case.

That is Zanax. Same drug that was used by a katoey to rob an off-duty policeman several months ago. In that incident, the policeman died of either an overdose or complications brought on by an excessive dose of Zanax.

It was my understanding the govt. had cracked down on over-the-counter availability od Zanax since then.

Two further Indian men drugged and robbed in South Pattaya Hotel.

23_10_3.jpg

Police were called to the Baiyoke Hotel on the Pratamnuk Road in South Pattaya to investigate a second case of drugging and robbery of Indian Tourists in the space of three days. The victims are Mr. Shiva Challvappa aged 47 and Mr. Govindasmy Suresh aged 39, both from India. They were discovered in a semi-unconscious state by hotel staff. The two men checked in on 21st October at 10pm with the intention of checking-out at 5pm on 22nd October and they were in the company of two Thai women who are suspected of stealing from them. Hotel Staff were alerted after the two men failed to check-out at the allotted time.

One of the men was more coherent than the other and he told Police that the two women had taken all their valuables which included 5,000 US Dollars and 200 Indian Ruppees along with a 1 Baht weighted Gold necklace, three gold rings, a Digital Camera and a mobile phone, total value over 400,000 Baht. The two prime suspects in this case were identified by Hotel Staff who had taken copies of their ID cards prior to check in. Police are now searching for Khun Nuanwan aged 30 and Khun Nishar aged 21. Both Indian men were taken to Hospital where they later recovered and made full statements to Police.

We would like to advise all Tourists and those that reside here in Pattaya that should you take a guest back to your home or hotel room, ensure that all valuables are safely locked away in either a room safe or a safe box which can normally be found at most Hotel receptions if a room safe is not available. Never accept a drink from a stranger and never leave your drink unattended in a public place or in your hotel room if you have company. Also make sure that a copy of their ID card is kept at the Hotel reception or in a safe place within your home so you can refer to it at a later date if required.

Yes it looks and sounds like Zanax. A lot of people I know and myself take this tablet when taking long flights. Even if half a tablet is taken 0.5mg it is enough to keep you asleep for roughly 6-8 hours including turbulence.

What I don’t understand is how the people got the Indian gentlemen to take them. For instance Zanax unlike other drugs has a taste, if you add it to water, beer or soft drinks, the drink will turn a different colour and the taste becomes undrinkable. The only way to get some one to take this drug is through choice. They must have taken it thinking it was something like Viagra, really it is the only way….

It is possible to get Zanax in Thailand. To get it you need to see a doctor as it is no longer available over the counter, it is also possible to purchase it online. From what I understand it is a anti depressant type of drug.

I can tell you this, when I get on flight BR067 it is good to see me well into German Airspace.

Police were called to the Moonlight Hotel in the Naklua area after staff were unable to wake up two young Indian men who had been drugged after returning to their room with two ladies of the night. Police found the men, both in their early twenties, snoring loudly but impervious to all attempts to bring them round.

Looking for evidence, officers found three cans of beer and a recently used condom, evidently a minor party of some kind. The men were taken to Memorial Hospital where a watch was set up to wait for them, to regain consciousness, probably with awful headaches.

Doctors said they had been drugged. Luckily this hotel requires visitors to sign in with their ID cards and police were able to arrest Miss Malee, 27, and Miss Sukreerat, 25, within a couple of hours in front of the Marine Condo. Also taken into custody was a third woman who was waiting to drive her accomplices away from the scene of shame.

Police found in their room 50 tablets which were used to drug unsuspecting foreigners, often by placing them in a fizzy drink. Asked why they had so many narcotic tablets, the women said they needed a constant supply as business was very brisk at the moment. The Indian men, when they awake, will be pleased to know that investigators recovered their property of one gold necklace and 2,000 baht in cash.

Punters have and are being drugged here in Thailand, it has been happening for years, every year westerns are killed by this. . . At one time it was known for lady boys to put a liquid drug on their nipples, other men have had drinks spiqued and some even injected.

It is also believed that some older men are given drugs to brin on heart attacks...

This is nothing new here in the land of the smiles.

Xanax is alprazolam. It is a benzodiazapine that is used as an axiolytic and for panic attacks, it is also possible it has slight anti-depressive action.

When mixed with alcohol its actions are amplified and euphoria is present.

It is easy to forget that 1mg of alprazolam= 20mg of diazapam (Valium). It still amazes me that they sell Xanax in 1mg and 2mg tablet form; since just 0.5mg for myself before a plane journey is sufficient.

The robbers must grind the tablets into a powder and spike the victims beer.

However as a previous poster said; overdose when mixed with alcohol is a real possibility, and then death by asphyxiation of vomit is on the cards.

There are one or two pharmacies that sell Xanax over the counter, to farangs and Thais, but there has been quite a clamp-down on alprazolam recently. The generic drug sold (as alprazolam) at 180 baht for 10 scored purple 1.0 mg pills is just as powerful as branded Xanax IMHO.

What slightly puzzles me is the targetting of Indians. It might not be PC to say so, but could it be Thai police don't take robbery and drugging of Indians as seriously as Western nationalities?

I bet the women robbers get minor punishments.

:D Blimey that really is quite frightening. Was it essential though to post the pictures of men in their undercrackers. I bet they will be delighted if they ever come to light in Mumbai. Divorce anyone? :o

Staff at the Hotel mentioned that the two men had entered the room with a woman

Well these two shared a double bed ( and one woman ) the two muppets further down the thread are in singles. Not sure which is less appealing. :o

This is very sad for these folks. I think a lot more of this happens than one might suspect. An older friend of mine was in Pattaya for a couple of days--he's not a party type of guy or anything like that and he was staying in one of the better hotels. He wasn't interested in any of the "entertainment" establishments or anything of that sort.

He went to eat in the hotel and then went to the hotel bar for a couple of drinks before going to bed. He didn't notice anyone or anything going on (it was a very quiet place and it was quite early in the evening). All he really remembers is feeling really, really drunk after his two drinks and so he headed back to his room (alone).

In the morning, he woke up laying on his bed with his clothes on. He had no money in his wallet. He didn't have a lot of cash, but he was sure he had some with him.

He doesn't remember anyone following him or coming in or going out. He guesses that if he was robbed, they got maybe around 1,000 baht or less.

This would probably never have even come up, but we went out with some friends and he didn't want to have a drink with us because he said he had lost his "tolerance" for alcohol--he then proceeded to tell us about what happened. We assured him we didn't think it was his "tolerance" that was lost. He had a couple of drinks and with us and was fine.
