Want to stay in thailand for 4 months later this year

Featured Replies

I have a friend who wants to come to Thailand later this year and stay for 4 months. I do not understand the various routes to do this. Advice please from those who know.

Thank you

Will the 4 months be entirely in Thailand or will they be leaving and re-entering during the trip?

A single entry Tourist Visa will give a stay of 60 days and can be extended at Immigration for a further 30 days.

He can then do a border run and get a further 15/30 days depending on his nationality.

Or apply for another Tourist Visa in the area.

He might be able to get a Multi Entry Tourist Visa.

This gives unlimited entries for 6 months.

He applies for this in his own country , so check with his local Thai Embassy.

I assume you are a brit, go online to Thai embassy in london, all the info is there.

  • His best option would be a multiple entry tourist visa (METV). That would give him 60 days on entry. At the end of the 60 days he just needs to cross the border, turn around, and re-enter Thailand to receive another 60 days.

If he doesn't qualify for a METV he could apply for a single entry tourist visa (SETV). That gives one 60 day entry that can be extended by 30 days at a local immigration office for 1,900 baht. At the end of the 90 days he could exit/re-enter (some borders) and receive another 30 day stay (free) assuming he's British or from one of the other G7 countries.
