G'day,

I'm an Australian and I'll be arriving in Thailand on the 24th November, and will staying till the 5th January. However, during this time I will be travelling through Vietnam for a couple of weeks.

Does the 30 day tourist visa last for 30 days from the date of entry into Thailand, or is it based on the amount of days you are actually in the country? When re-entering Thailand from Vietnam, would I need to purchase another visa, or will the original Visa still be valid? Does that make sense...:o

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if I did overstay my visa by 10 days? Would it be a simple fine? If so, any idea how much? Would I miss my flight? Or would I spend a night in the Bangkok Hilton? :D

Cheers, thanks very much for your help in advance!

There is no 30 day tourist visa so believe you are talking about either a 60 day visa or a 30 day arrival without visa (which you airline may not like). Unless you buy a 2 entry tourist visa you can only enter one time and if your second entry will be less than 30 days you can use visa exemption for that. It you expect it to be more would advise getting a two entry tourist visa prior to travel.

Overstay draws a 500 baht per day fine and if police stop you it is jail time until you are deported. You do not want to overstay a visa.
