Alcohol and Thailand by The Pattaya Sleuth

Recommended Posts

One might be amused to learn the business class lounges at KIAH do not serve alcohol before a certain time on Sunday. (Old Harris County,TX blue laws I guess). My point is the law is clear and it is applied transparently.

I don't care about dry days/ advertising restrictions as long as they are enforced fairly. It sounds as if the regulations are due for a complete overhaul and clarification, to be applied Nation-wide without favoritism or exception. The ever increasing "laws" here are vague, interpreted capriciously and subject to corruption. Where exactly does it say in that convenience stores at Swampy can sell alcohol 24/7, as they currently do? The Royal Silk lounges do not go dry at Midnight, and I doubt any other connected or "elite" venue ever will go dry either, no matter how close to a school it is or what time of what day one speaks of.

Oh not again. This final nail in the coffin. Again?

You can get grog 24/7 in Thailand 365. Not everywhere but it is doable.

Name a country where bottle shops (or seven elevens, or mum and dad shops) are as common as in Thailand. In oz you can't buy beer or any alcohol in seven elevens or milk bars and I reckon there wouldn't be more than a couple of outlets selling alcohol per suburb. And they close at 10pm generally. Here you can get grog on nearly every half busy road, even the little shops in villages have cold beer for sale.

Here it is everywhere and readily available despite some restrictions that are largely ignored.

But let's dress it up as that elusive "final nail in the coffin". That must be the five hundredth final nail that I have read about on Thai visa.

The fact is that decent hotels can sell grog whenever they want.

+1 well said roomuck, plus you gave me my laugh of the day. Showing your vintage their champ long time since I've heard anyone discussing milk bars..nice one

With each passing day, I grow more and more thankful that I don't consume alcohol.

Or smoke, or take drugs, or "enjoy" prostitutes.

My life is MUCH too full to intentionally poison myself......

You're Welcome!! smile.png

You must be a bundle of fun to be with.

My friends tell me I am. But we all are a rather stoopid bunch of idjits.

And dare I warrant than I am FAR healthier than those who actually choose to voluntarily poison their one and only bodies......

You're Welcome!! smile.png

Professional sportsmen are probably far healthier than you, and, surprisingly, some enjoy drinking alcohol at times.

Most of them have a personality too !

You're welcome too !!

If one is an adult and consciously chooses to poison themselves, so be it. I shan't make any efforts to stop them, so long as their poor choices don't interfere with other's rights to a healthy lifestyle.

Thankfully, I have never been prone to self-destructive behaviours.......

Thank you for your gracious Welcome!! smile.png

A naughty Thai guy gets round the whole thing by opening his beer INSIDE the 7-11 after 2pm and stands there drinking it while proffering the money.

Eddy

Any 7-11 I've been in uses a chain between the door handles to prevent sales. Then they often forget to remove them at 11am or 5pm.......

But it's mostly only the 'name' stores, the big companies, like 7-11. Tesco etc that won't sell. Just gives everyone the opportunity to support their local village shop,

Probably has more to do with the computerized cash registers than any desire to comply with the law for the large chains

Once had a problem with Tops in Tukcom, since their cash registers were out of sync with the actual time so the clerk could not scan in the alcohol item. Took a manager with an over-ride code to unlock the register
