STOCKHOLM: -- Sweden is marking 30 years since the death of its Prime Minister Olof Palme.

The 59-year-old died after being shot in the back by an attacker on his way home from the cinema in 1986.

The motive for his murder is still unknown and is of ongoing interest in Sweden.

10.000 people have been questioned in connection with his killing, 134 have claimed they did it and the files for the inquiry take up 250 square metres of office space.

Was it a lone nut that shot him?

Or did he have enemies in the Soviet Union, Israel, or the US?

Hottest theory right now is South Africa, they where still under apartheid at that time and Sweden was supporting ANC with large sums of money (we are talking millions of $ over the years... about 50-60% of ANC whole budget!!!).

Otherwise I would guess that it was a lone nutcase (or US as Sweden actually had quite good relations to the big bear in the east at that point!).
