KRABI: About 500 Krabi police officers joined a mass raid to arrest about 100 oil palm squatters on Thursday.

“We surrounded the area to check on the squatters who were trying to claim the land as their own after the previous owner’s license expired,” said Plai Phraya Police Superintendent Chamnan Chamnankij.

“These people were still living on the plantation after being told to leave several times already. We had no choice, but to seize their vehicles and arrest them,” Col Chamnan said.

Col Chamnan confirmed that police were on the lookout for about 200 others for whom arrest warrants have been issued. The mission to remove all the squatters would take about three days, he said, adding that the Royal Forest Department would then be in charge of looking after the area.

Wow that sounds like a Thai fighting a Farang 5 to 1 well done BIB i am sure you are very brave .

So what will become of the PO plantation, will it be destroyed, or left for some influential person to continue reaping the proceeds !

These squatters seem to very savvy...

I met someone a few years back who had spent his life's savings on a home with beautiful views of the ocean...literally, squatters built raised huts right in front of his home...claiming the land that was visible during low tide...beer cans and food cluttered the beach...he wanted to sell and go back to his home, but who would buy a home with 30 drunk squatters hanging out at all hours of the day/night?

So what will become of the PO plantation, will it be destroyed, or left for some influential person to continue reaping the proceeds !

Are you new here?

It appears the palm oil plantation company could not extend there lease and know the

race is on to control and exploit the upgraded land. Cleared and cultivated with palm trees etc.

Someone with pull verses the rabble who have no more claim than any other Thai. Is the

big wig looking to get a sweetheart deal on a new lease, maybe even free. Plenty more to

come I am sure. They will not want the squatting rabble to get established. whistling.gif
