Defense Council calls for military focus on drought crisis

BANGKOK, 29 February 2016 (NNT) – The Minister of Defense has ordered all military forces and related units to focus their efforts on remedying the drought situation while assuring that the mid-year top brass reshuffle will be based on capability.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Gen Prawit Wongsuwan disclosed after attending a Defense Council meeting that he has instructed all military leaders to maintain peace in the nation as well as pool their efforts to address the drought crisis.

The ministry of defense has been tasked by the government to distribute water to areas in need and to aid relevant agencies in digging ground water wells, construct reservoirs and dredge waterways, all of which are now 60 percent complete.

On the mid-year reshuffle of high ranking military officers, the minister said he has yet to receive the list of candidates for promotion but expects to obtain it by the middle of March. He let on that only several posts will be reshuffled and assured they would be based on capability and decided with fairness.

Amazing. How long have we known about the looming water crisis? One wonders how long they have been working on this so-called "project" and how long it will take to complete the remaining 40% of the work.

(Oh and has anyone told them that for new reservoirs and waterways to be of any help you need to have some rain to fill them in the first place?)

Why is the military so involved in civilian affairs????????? wink.png

Because there is no civilian government ... it's a military government.

Since May 2014 when the RTM overthrew the civilian government.

And likely to remain a military government into 2017.
