thecyclist
Do they issue visa on arrival at all Lao border crossings now? I am particularly interested in the one at Bueng Kan.
ThaiTJ
They do not issue a Lao visa on arrival at Paksan. You can get a Thai exemption stamp at Bueng Kan.
thecyclist
Thanks for the reply.Of course the Thai visa exemption you can get at any international border crossing. I assume that this is a very quiet border crossing, mainly used by local Thais and Laotians, and possibly the odd Farang that lives in the far northeastern corner of isan. Tomtomtom69
Phu Doo is another Thai-Lao border that does not yet issue Lao VOA. Beung Kan is possibly the most annoying border to cross now as you have to get on a ferry and the opening hours / running times of the ferry are very erratic. If bringing a vehicle across you'll probably spend 1000 Baht, whereas it's only 30-50 Baht for the bridge toll after driving 140km west to Nong Khai. Tomtomtom69
I don't see them offering VOA until the new 5th Thai-Lao friendship bridge is completed, but that's another few years away. Until then, it will stay very quiet.
FrankyFreedom
Planning to possibly cross this Paksan/Bueng Kan border (with bicycle) within 14 days. Does anyone know the current status of this crossing? Is it international? And is visa exempt (VOA) available into Thailand. Any exorbitant fees to put the mountain bike on the ferry? Thanks in advance for any info. FF
