CHUMPHON:-- A Chinese family of 8 had to be rescued when their luxury yacht was severely damaged during heavy storms and washed ashore in Chumphon province on Wednesday.

The yacht, which is said to be owned by a Chinese business tycoon, Mr Lee Liao came into difficulty as it sailed from Pattaya to Singapore, where the family had intended to spend a vacation.

Pol. Col. Vithoon Palasarn from Chumphon police confirmed that officers and rescue crews rushed to the aid of the family after their 13 meter yacht washed ashore at Thung Sang, Chumphon.

The boat, which left Pattaya on Tuesday came into difficulty during stormy weather and suffered damage to the steering control, as well as some damage to the boat's hull after it struck rocks.

All 8 passengers escaped without injury, including two boys aged two and five years.

Police provided assistance to the family, helping them find a place to stay and making arrangements for their boat to be repaired.

“Mr Lee and his family are an example of a current trend in rich businessman and other Chinese tourists who travel to Thailand using their own yacht. Lee is a regular visitor to Thailand and also owns a house in Pattaya. His yacht is also registered in Thailand,” added Pol. Col. Vithoon.

Let us hope it is the police vessel that rescued them, it look neither luxurious nor yacht like.

The Chinese tourists are either stupid or suicidal or both.

cheesy.gifcheesy.gif 13 meters is not a yacht....

Surely, that cannot be the luxury yacht, its a cabin cruiser and with all those

on board, heading for Singapore !, they are very lucky they washed ashore at

Chumphon, an accident waiting to happen I think. wonder if the sailed it down

from China.

12 adults and 2 kids all on a 13 metre cabin cruiser , guessing the owner has followed the general trend in Thailand when it comes to overloading vessels

The "yacht" is not pointing at the Chinese, so it is not true.giggle.gif

Who else is in the picture if the rescued total number 8?

So Chinese driving skills are the same on water as on the road. Keep them away from planes!

How can he own a house He is a foreigner

Gilligans Island springs to mind ... gigglem.gif

Thank you....

The best part of coming home is this. Its like watching Jay Leno again.

A BS story to me.

That is not a yacht but a poor cabin cruiser, certainly not luxurious.

A yacht traditionally has a mast and sails.

Yachts need highly qualified skipper and crew to sail .

Nah........they're all CIA........tongue.png

as well as some damage to the boat's hull after it struck rocks.

probably not experienced. No license, no radar, no brain

13meter yacht?... now that must be a cute tiny yacht :)

probably some chinese that were swimming and wanted to get their photo in the papers to show their friends back home

This is a motor yacht/power yacht.

There is also a sailing yacht which is the more usual for describing a yacht.

From the looks of this motor yacht it would usually have 1-2 tight double cabins....possibly a sofa bed in the saloon as well.

So it must have been very snug for the eight on board.

maybe chinese are not classed as foreigners now that they soon will own most of Thailand judging by all the deals that are being done between the 2 countries

Actually, it can be described as such, although I understand the point you are making here.

At 13 meters (42 ft) it is something the likes of Roman Abramovich would carry on his afterdeck as a runabout. IMHO it ought to have been referred to as a cabin cruiser. But he is, after all, a Chinese billionaire.

YACHT.

Yacht lengths generally range from 10 metres (33 ft) up to dozens of meters (hundreds of feet). A luxury craft smaller than 12 metres (39 ft) is more commonly called a cabin cruiser or simply a cruiser. A superyacht generally refers to any yacht (sail or power) above 24 m (79 ft) and a megayacht generally refers to any yacht over 50 metres (164 ft). This size is small in relation to typical cruise liners and oil tankers.

The Chinese tourists are either stupid or suicidal or both.

Being that they are rich tourists let's put em up at the Hilton.

CHUMPON — Nine Chinese refugees who tried to leave Thailand by sea were forced to return to shore by stormy weather, and now three are being held on immigration charges.

Two members of a spiritual sect persecuted by Beijing, five activists and two children were among the group which set out from Pattaya in hope of reaching New Zealand when high waves late Tuesday night disabled their yacht, according to the wife of one.
