BANGKOK: -- Former Thai prime minister Anand Panyarachun will give a keynote speech to the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand (FCCT) later this month.

The still-influential figure, 83, will speak to foreign correspondents about his personal vision of what Thailand must do to create a brighter future for its people.

His speech, entitled "In Search of Thailand's New Normal" builds on a previous talk he gave in Brussels in 2008 discussing "Sustainable Democracy."

In his 2008 speech Anand states at the end:

To nurture and sustain democracy, its beneficiaries must also serve as its guardians; the common people must be ever vigilant and wise.

Unfotunately, the common people have never had control over their own sovereignty to serve as its guardians and the current draft constitution will not change that situation.

Sounds like a speech out of mainland China.

Been Prime Minister twice.

Never achieved the job through winning a general election.

Thailand's "new norm"?

Been Prime Minister twice.

Never achieved the job through winning a general election.

Thailand's "new norm"?

But he was one of the best if not THE best PM Thailand has had for the last 30 years.

So I read.

Doesn't change my point though does it?

Brainwashed member must have the last word to make its day.

From a personal point of view Dr. Anand ran Thailand like a businessman runs a successful company, in his case Saha Union.

Additional, he was approachable. I wrote him a letter in February about the deplorable state of taxis in Thailand not having electronic taxi meters and April 1 (my first thought was that it was a April 1 gimmick) but I learned very quickly on April 1 (in less than 2 months) that all taxis in Bangkok were equipped with electronic taxi meters. Try that for all you want with any other PM Thailand has had and you will come up with silts.

His speech should of been about "Finding someone not corrupt and asinine proves impossible."

FCCT, there's still somebody there listening who's been lucky enough to score a visa?

He's possibly going to use all his diplomatic skills, to highlight some key points, which if understood, might, possibly, not exactly align to the current big boss man and his crew....possibly. Wait and see.
